About this deal

His acumen is best demonstrated in his intricate descriptions of various on-field weaponry, combat accoutrements and other granular military minutiae gathered by only those intimate with the subject matter. This city is the focal point of the conflict, the last line of defense the Imperials have to hold before the forces of Chaos would be able to overwhelm them and push into the throne room itself.

At one point somebody posted the entire story there, so you only need to find it in its specific tab as eventually everyone realized what they had done and deleted it (thankfully nothing fully vanishes from wiki sites like that, so the story's still there in one of the archived pages). Though He is no longer responsive to external stimuli, the Emperor still lies at the very heart of the Imperium's continued existence. The Emperor Himself declared that Mankind would never be free to progress and advance to its destined position as the pre-eminent intelligent species in the Milky Way Galaxy until "the last stone from the last church was cast down onto the last priest.Using the knowledge He had bargained for with the Dark Gods on Molech, the Emperor during the Unification Wars also created with the aid of the scientists of His Biotechnical Division the twenty superhuman primarchs from whom the Space Marines' gene-seed was later developed, using His own DNA as the foundation of their undifferentiated genomes. In the former's case, there's still enough hope that humanity's old foe might be beaten, while the latter was helped by its genre conventions and without the need for an ongoing saga. The first major character we are introduced to is Ra, a captain within the Custodes, and someone who is in personal communication with the Emperor. It's not one for leading a bloody charge though, and instead stalks around the Imperial defenses, picking them apart little by little.

Bereft of those traits, the Custodes, Sisters and many others seem oddly lifeless on an individual level. And since we are still trying to mirror canon where it fits in our canon, the thought was did we need to change our portrayal? The Emperor is unable to personally help in the conflict since he is now confined to the Golden Throne, focusing all of his psychic might just to keep the Terran portion of the webway from crashing in on itself. While this has been true throughout the Heresy, Master of Mankind approaches it in a myriad of ways, from examining the inevitability of certain hard decisions to the unpredictability of the future. You are not meant to "like" a tyrant, a dictator who sacrifices the lives of millions to achieve their goal. This shouldn't be too much of a surprise for anyone familiar with the Night Lords trilogy, or even Betrayer, but it's especially evident here. They do still see a bit of the "holy" radiance around him, but since their entire job is to be around him all the time and personally protect him, they have gotten very use to him.

As great an author as he is, he does have this nasty habit of overly simplifying certain subjects or themes in his worse stories. For example, The Emperor cites the Crusades as one of the reasons religion is evil, as if there wouldn't be crusades without religion, even though he's literally just about to launch THE GREAT CRUSADE. This was a supremely powerful psychic navigational beacon powered by the Emperor's own will and psychic abilities that would allow simplified and safer interstellar travel through the Warp across far greater distances than before. Another source claims that even before the Unification Wars had ended, the Thunder Warriors at last realised that their creator had cursed them with short lifespans as a result of their imperfect genetic augmentations, and turned upon Him for what they saw as His betrayal. With this victory, the planet and population of Terra were at last unified under the single rule of the Emperor. There is also Arkhan Land to a lesser degree, who serves as the major Mechanicus presence in the book, but much of his involvement comes down to fleshing out his own personality over seriously getting into the meat of things. As for The Last Church, it's not a pro-Emperor story, it just has a huge problem with presenting arguments.

On the whole Master of Mankind is a solid entry into the Horus Heres y series and a great read, but it's oddly almost in spite of itself. Sorry, I have not read it for myself, but most people cite less the Emperor proving he was right and more how one last priest on Terra defied him to the bitter end. Land is portrayed as a man who is at odds with the very institution he is a part of, holding little reverence for anything, even the Emperor. The novel isn’t that long – at 400 pages or so you can rampage through it over a night or two with a beer or a glass of red.The primarchs were sucked into the Warp through the will of the Chaos Gods while still in their gestation capsules and scattered across the Human-inhabited worlds of the galaxy. Not only do they face the combined might of the traitor legions and the demons of Chaos, but a particularly ancient and powerful demon now stalks the webway as well. So, we had to replace them, but hopefully we won't have to do that again after our last replacement. The collector's edition hardback includes a full-art hardcover, a glossy dust jacket in the Horus Heresy series style, internal illustrations and an exclusive author afterword. We see in it reflections of his actions on Terra, his moments leading the Thunder Warriors and even a fleeting look into his earliest days.
