About this deal

Don’t worry, I’m not giving away any spoilers for the ending of Behind You here. Then again, I don’t need to because you will probably guess most ahead of time. The amazing leaps and pratfalls he performed forced Grimaldi into premature retirement, destitution and an early death. Thousands of people would line the streets as his coffin made its way up to Pentonville Hill. Into the Victoria age - Dan Leno and the Pantomime Dame I received a review copy from the publishers in exchange for an honest review. It has not affected my opinions. The cover! I didn’t even realise it until I got home again and put the book next to its friend, but it matches with the book It’s Behind You! The blood drip! That is such a cool little thing and I hope it continues in her next books.

The audience and the character comically share the knowledge that the Dame is not really a woman; that the Principal Boy is not really a Boy Our five contestants are - naturally - not all they claim to be. From the outset we know that some of those involved are hiding things...the question is, how relevant are these secrets to what is happening in the caves during the course of the show? also, as an avid romance reader, i never thought i'd say this one day, but the romance in this book was completely unnecessary. like, the plot would have been the exact same without it. Lex and Liam only kissed once, and her internal monologues barely mentioned any kind of feelings towards him ? plus, they only knew each other for one night, so it felt unrealistic and like the author just wanted to add romance for the sake of it. That ending! WOW! WOW! WOW! Kind of sad the game of tag was over, but this was also fine with me. Things really got put in a rollercoaster!Augustus Harris, a dominant figure in West End theatre and often referred to as the father of modern pantomime, encouraged lavish productions and competition between British theatres. When he took over the lease of London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, he would put on huge spectacular annual pantomimes that ran from Easter to Christmas. Some of the pantomimes he co-wrote and staged included Little Red Riding Hood, Little Bo-Peep and Hop o' my Thumb, driven by his passion for the old Harlequinade and its lavish scenery, acrobats and clowns. The very last Harlequinade was performed at the Lyceum Theatre in 1939. The Future Of Panto It took a bit for the story to get going (and I initially hated the MC, Lex) but once all the contestants entered the cave, the story really took off. The setting was exceptional and the feeling of dread and claustrophobia was palpable throughout the story. Also I think the plottwist was kind of meh I didn’t see it coming but I think the author could have done a lot more like include Laurie more into it (if you read the book you know what I mean , don’t wanna spoil) I think this book is the definition of “meh”. I finished it yesterday and I don’t even remember any of the characters names.

Originally I was planning on giving this three stars, as I read it I was thinking it was a fairly decent book, three stars. Except the twist at the ending was so bad it brought it down a rating. This is a mystery and the entire book leads up and revolves around one reveal, who killed Rose? The reveal of who did it was so bad and cliched it was unexpected because of how little sense it made but also incredibly predictable. Creating a narrative where one of the narrators is the killer could have been great, but alot of skill and careful execution is necessary for a reveal like that. Instead in this book once the killer is revealed, their personality inside their own head completely switches. They go from innocent, funny and not very smart to calculated and insane, which would make sense if it was from someone else's perspective, but it makes absolutely no sense for this to be happening in their inner dialogue. It was a ridiculous and cliche twist. With this movie, we’re getting nowhere for the longest time. Then, when you think the movie is over because it feels like it has already been more than long enough, it continues. However, not in any good way. And yes, an additional 10-15 minutes of intelligent plot twists could make a movie much better.

Help

Which is how Carina Hemsley comes to be playing Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother in a rundown Newcastle theatre alongside a clutch of other showbiz hasbeens and dim-witted wannabes. Commuting to and from London, Fareham, Swansea, and a few other locations plays a not-insignificant role in the book, a little more description of this would be helpful, or even a map. I'd like more contextual details about nearly everything: living and working around London in the late 1980s along with the mechanics of developing for the ZX Spectrum. I also appreciate the short length of the book as it is makes up for any issues that would need a good editor to clean up in a longer text. I have never been one to really mix my thrillers with the paranormal but I thought the paranormal wasn’t over done here. Highly preferred this book to Kathryn Foxfield’s previous book, ‘Good Girls Die First’ and I’d recommend it. The Clown is changing out of all recognition. Out goes the old costume, and the Clown’s familiar role as a stupid, loutish feed for Harlequin's magic. In comes a character with white face and red cheeks; a pie-crust frill and baggy trousers; a cavernous mouth, and an elastic, intensely expressive face. At a time of war, Grimaldi’s hilarious antics embodied the freedom and liberty of British culture by contrast with our dull, humourless despotic enemies, the French. Button’s comic routines and the Dame’s glorious absurdity have their theatrical roots in Grimaldi’s clown.
