Novation have added a 5-pin MIDI output to the Mk3, so you can control external MIDI-compatible hardware (you’ll need an external power supply for hardware control). Using Ableton control, you can make tracks anywhere with Launchkey Mini’s intuitive, creative arpeggiator, Fixed Chord mode, MIDI out, and tons of sounds in the box.

This 49-key version gives you the full Launchkey control and feature set in a smaller format than the 61-key version so you can save a bit of space in your setup without sacrificing functionality. It was therefore a pleasant surprise to find the Launchkey lit up and worked just fine — and fairly reliably too, providing I always connected up in the correct sequence. There's also a new double-tap shift function for arp and fixed chord modes that latches the shift button which enables one-handed control of shift-modified buttons. The notes transmitted by the pads are fixed, as is the transmission channel (10) but these restrictions shouldn't be too problematic with most DAWs, although I would have preferred to choose my own notes for drum performance. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. With the Launchkey Mk3 making music on the computer is a more efficient, and more enjoyable experience.
