About this deal

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Whoever placed the highest-valued disc will claim this card, but first anyone with a lower-valued disc on this card will gain compensation, either the resources depicted multiplied by the value of their disc or a processing ability (exchange X for Y) up to as many times as the value of their disc. Furnace will run for four rounds Each time running through the Auction and then the Production phase. Each card has one or more icons along the top, some very serious industrial artwork in the middle, and then an operation action at the bottom. This small amount of asymmetry brings another side to this game that will increase its replayability.

The joy of Furnace is the angst of the auction juxtaposed with the fun of engine building, but quite often the engine building aspect is fairly procedural.

I enjoyed the asymmetry between the different Capitalists and how they require different approaches. Agricola has done this exhaustively, yet the most appropriate game to compare this part of Furnace with would be Res Arcana.

Once a player has finished resolving a card (or an effect, for that matter), he cannot go back to it.Most cards have a second operation action below the first, which will be greyed out – this helpfully shows what that factory will become should you spend an upgrade token and a coal to flip it to its upgraded side. I love the focus on efficiency as you’ll need coal, oil, and iron but also need an outlet to make money from all of it. As such, you must ensure that you place this resource producing card before the resource exchanging card.

Overall, Furnace has a difficult theme to sell in a world that is increasingly – and rightly – worried about climate change. Nor can they can ever place a disc onto a card with a number that is the same value as one of the discs already placed onto that card.In the simultaneous Production phase, Furnace falls into a more mundane pattern as the various factory bits come to life. Winning a new company card is obviously the best outcome, but earning resources times the number on your bidding token is still pretty sweet. As the game goes on, your ultimate goal is to create a chain of cards that lets you maximize your point-scoring. Despite the whole game of Furnace revolving around the all-mighty dollar, auctions use a different resource altogether.

Contents: 36 double-sided Company cards, 5 single-sided Start-up cards, 5 Capitalist cards, 1 first player token, 4 players’ colour tokens, 4 different-colours sets of 4 Capital discs, 1 neutral-colored Capital disc, 40 Coal cubes, 20 Iron bars, 15 Oil drums, 4 multiplication tokens, 12 upgrade tokens, 61 money tokens, 1 round counter (2 pieces), 1 die, 1 rulebook. There are only two rules about this: a player can only put one of his discs on a company, not more, while discs of the same value cannot be put on the same company. Please ensure that you keep a copy of your proof of postage, as we can't be held responsible for goods that have either been damaged or lost in transit. Purchase new production facilities and timely upgrade them to extract and process your resources in the most effective way, and the title of the wealthiest capitalist of the technological revolution will be yours!Whether intended or not, I appreciated how this tempered the ‘capitalism is amazing’ messaging found throughout the gameplay.
