About this deal

With bonus bits at the back of the book, including reading notes and exciting facts, these are perfect for sparking discussion and engaging young readers. He who conquered all else is not to be conquered by those flames which you see blazing on Mount Oeta.

The humour will be popular with the target audience and it dripfeeds in some important facts and stories from Greek mythology. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I'm in the process of collecting as many of the essential Greek and Latin mythology texts as possible, and I have the usual, the Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Metamorphosis, Hesiod, etc etc, plus Madeline Miller's work. I wanted to read this for two reasons: I love Greek mythology and I am currently teaching the Greek myths to Year 3 (Age 7 -8) and this book looked like it would be perfect for this age range, either as a class reader or for independent reading. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife Crystal Skillman, and some mostly ungrateful cats, and loves hearing from readers at fred. The son of Zeus, Hercules is subjected to numerous battles as his father’s jealous wife, Hera, unleashes her wrath. Caught in the middle of being a human and a God, Hercules struggles to find his true place in the world. Zeus’s jealous wife Hera makes it her life’s mission to rid the world of Palaemon who later becomes Hercules. Van Lente also tackled Classical Greece in his irreverent-but-accurate American Library Association-award winning comics series Action Philosophers, illustrated by Ryan Dunlavey. That is what reading The Labors of Hercules Beal is like: when it’s over, the light is all around you.

Lasky (the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series) launches a new series, the Deadlies, centering on a family of toxic brown recluse spiders who feel misunderstood by humans. I would introduce Hercules by asking students their favorite superheroes and transitioning to Hercules being the hero of his time. When Gamma Lee decides to trade the quiet valley for a wild, windy mountaintop, her neighbors fear she has lost her mind.

Young Hercules is challenged by the King to carry out seven labours – no problem, although the King is less impressed when he brings back the evidence and stinks out the palace. They run away to Athens and Eurystheus declares war on the city and demands the soldiers “leave no stone unturned” to find and kill his children. In this rather slight story that may disappoint readers of Lasky's more memorable books, including Sugaring Time and I Have an Aunt on Marlborough Street , Grace is having a tantrum. I have to say that this book completely change my perspective of my favorite Disney movie because I didn't know Hera, Hercule's stepmother, was the villain instead of Hades. The goddess Hera commands that the mighty Hercules must undergo twelve incredible tasks to pay for a mistake he made in the past.
