The screen is decent enough for the job it does – but in quality terms not remotely comparable to the touch screen on a smartphone. The feature list for the Brother HL-L3230CDW is short but it does check off all of the indispensable functions. However small the point size that you’re printing at, the fine delineation of the characters ensure they are always legible.

As with all laser/LED printers, you will also need to replace the drum unit, in this case after about 18,000 pages. The copier function works really well, using either the flat bed or sheet feed options with A4 pages, and can also cope with reproducing book pages (though thicker books need to be opened out well to prevent light bleed from turning the centre of a copy black). It's not just a printer, and has a lot of additional features too, such as an ADF on the scanner as well as the flatbed.The device talks over CUPS and others and is happy over wifi, although I believe you can connect it with USB too. Within a busy office environment, you don’t need any additional noise to distract you from your work. On two occasions, all four were replaced when still around 80% full as the printer insisted that they were empty. I am not looking for anything over the top as regards to a printer as its just for craft projects such as transferring an image on to glass, candles etc but would still like good quality images, so are ink refills expensive?
