About this deal

More than 1,300 workers from Go North East have voted for industrial action following "below-inflation offers". A great book to introduce or discussion an African American child's view of moving from the South to North during such a changing time in our country. We have a number of communities to join, so you can choose which one you want to be part of and we'll send you the latest news direct to your phone. All we want is for the local union representatives to work constructively and collaboratively with us to secure the region’s bus services. Phrases such as “good luck,” with the first word in the phrase in larger print than the second, imitate the sounds of tires on a road.

going north - English definition, grammar, pronunciation

At the beginning and end of the book, an outline map showing the family's journey is painted on a road map, which helps set the tone for the book. They are also sort of blurred when you look at them which could correlate to how southern America saw African Americans lives as with little value. Young readers will enjoy the illustrative autobiographical story written in lyrical free verse of an African-American family’s journey from the segregated South to the new frontier of Lincoln, Nebraska. The motivation for this move is the parents’ desire to escape segregation in hopes of finding a better job for the father and better schools for their children. Industrial action continues to affect travel infrastructure around the country, as unions strike for better pay and conditions for their members during a cost of living crisis and soaring inflation rates.

However, I think they could connect with the struggles that young children to go through that are sort of showcased. At first she does not want to go North, but the story follows her on her journey in the car ride North.

I think it's good for getting kids to understand the challenges faces by black families in the south during the segregation era. I don’t want to see damage to the sector just as it is starting to get back on its feet after Covid, and especially when the Government is doing everything it can in terms of fare caps and extra support as well. Also, looking at the art (pictures) of the book I noticed that they seemed to be vague and were not clear. The Conservative MP for North West Durham, whose constituency includes areas like Consett and Lanchester that have lost bus services due to the industrial action, said he thought the two parties had been “very close” to a deal last week and that there “surely has to be some common ground” to resolve the strike.

This story shows how difficult and frightening this journey was for the family as they drive through the segregated south. This book follows the main character Jessie, a young African-American girl as her family travels from Alabama to Nebraska in the 1960’s.

with the Government paying for that using money redirected from the scrapping of HS2’s northern leg. What I want to see is the union and Go North East, who I don’t think are a million miles apart, coming together to get a sensible deal for the future. Leaving behind Big Mama, loving relatives, and the familiar red soil and cotton fields of Alabama, Jessie and her family are going north to Nebraska. Go North East business director Ben Maxfield blamed Unite for the new strike action, stating that union representatives walked away from a settlement. Asked if the Department for Transport could step in to help local authorities provide emergency bus services for areas left cut-off during the strike, the Tory minister added: “In the immediate term, the quickest way to get around this is for the union and the operator to get together – whether that is negotiating themselves or through Acas to get that sorted out.It effectively illustrates the everyday difficulties that black people struggled with due to segregation.

It is the early 1960s and the trip north is not easy for this family as all gas stations and restaurants do not serve Negroes and yes that is the term used in the text. Cotton fields and the segregated gas stations recede, and new landscapes offer the promise of a better life. After counting the miles and almost running out of gas they stop at a Negro owned gas station to fill up, and make to their destination. I want to see people coming together in the interests of bus users, many of whom are elderly and on concessionary fares, many of whom are in low-paid work – I don’t want to see them suffer. Unfortunately, it appears some elements within Unite are hell-bent on this course of action, but we believe most of our drivers will want to see successful ACAS negotiations.I can understand the dark and sad animations early on, but I feel as though they should have become clearer and brighter as the journey continued on. The bottom line is that this simply isn’t true, which means that Unite would be striking for something they have already been offered. Unite won’t back down in the face of intimidation and we will be backing our members to the hilt during their increased industrial action. After a couple of hours, the car needed gas but the only gas station near by didn't accept black people. The family worriedly needs to stop and get gas during their trip, but racism in the south makes this a tense scene.
