About this deal

Our liquid concentrate developers are easy to use/mix and fit into 3 categories - those for spiral/deep tank processing, those for machine processing (as in labs), and specialist developers. Spiral/deep tank processing developers ILFOTEC DD-X A single 1L bottle isn’t that expensive, but when you consider that it requires a 1+4 dilution, that means you’re only getting 10 cycles out of a single bottle. For example, Rodinal, which usually comes in a 500ml bottle at a cheaper price, can develop up to 50 rounds, totaling 100 rolls of 35mm film — all in a solution that doesn’t expire over time. That’s why I always recommend Rodinal (or Blazinal in Canad) to be the first film developer for new film photographers. I started by putting a roll of Ilford HP5+ in each Holga and shot the same image for the entire roll.

I’m not going to lie – I knew, or made an educated guess, that the results would differ – but I wasn’t sure they’d be super noticeable. This developer gives a best overall performance for all our film products. It enables fine grain, good speed (no loss) and has a smooth transition with tonal range from shadow detail through to bright highlight detail. It is also suitable for using in rotary processors. This is available as a 1L item and used at a 1+4 dilution. ILFOSOL 3 I’ve developed hundreds of rolls of film over the last couple of years, and DD-X has been by far my favorite developer for most of that time. The results that this solution gets are second to none with faster films, which is one of the major reasons why I almost always keep a bottle of it on my shelf to this day. You can always add more contrast, but removing it is much harder. DD-X helped create a detailed image with rich tonality. Photo taken on Ilford HP5 with a Hasselblad 503cx and 150mm f/4 lens What are the downsides of DD-X? This developer is highly concentrated and can be used in spirals, deep tanks, rotary processors and in roller transport processors. It is available as a 1L item and at a variety of different dilutions: 1+11, 1+15, 1+19, 1+31, 1+39, 1+47 and 1+79. Machine processing developers (for labs) ILFOTEC DDWe have a broad range of both liquid and powder concentrate developers which are all compatible with our resin coated and fibre base paper products. Depending which developer is used, the image tones can vary from neutral to warm. Maybe Ilford Ilfosol-3 Developer is the one for you – especially if you’re shooting on plastic cameras.

It is used at a 1+9 dilution with 1L bottle producing approximately 700 resin coated 10x8" prints or 450 fibre base 10x8" prints. Used for processing scientific products such as glass plates however, it is also the optimum developer to process our Ortho Plus film product and can be used to process sheet films. Depending on development time chosen, it will enable varying contrast levels to be achieved. It is suitable for spiral tanks and trays and available as a 5L item. It is used at a 1+4 dilution. Simplicity This developer gives a good performance with all our paper products and produces a slightly warm image tone. t has good keeping properties, so can typically be reused, and is available as a 1L item. It should be diluted at a ratio of 1+9 which will produce approximately 600 resin coated 10x8" prints or 350 fibre base 10x8" prints. Machine processing developers (for labs) 2150 XLThis developer enables fine grain and good sharpness. It is also suitable for rotary processors. It is available as a 500ml item and used at 1+9, 1+19 and 1+29 dilutions. ILFOTEC HC

Because of its performance, DD-X is one of the most common developers found at professional film labs around the world for a simple reason: this is the developer that will give photographers the best negatives even in challenging lighting scenarios. In my own uses, I’ve found DD-X to be the absolute best developer for pushing and pulling, especially with t-grain films like Ilford Delta 3200 and Kodak P3200. Since I wanted to compare like to like, I went out with two Holga 120n cameras (yes, I own two – it’s fine, it’s totally fine!).

This machine developer is primarily designed for use with our resin coated papers in roller transport processors. It gives a neutral to slightly cool image tone and is available as a 5L item. It is designed to be used at temperatures of between 20-40C (68-104F) and at a 1+4 dilution. We have a range of 6 developers suitable for processing paper. Below is a short overview of each and what they are best suited to: Powder paper developers (for dish/tray processing)
