About this deal

Fully updated, 50th Anniversary, edition of the classic complete guide to the edible species of the UK that introduced foraging to generations of naturalists. I thought I knew all about blackberries Rubus fruticosus which I look forward to picking every year. This little pocket book has a nice menu of freely available foodstuffs and recipes to include them in. The calendar for growing seasons is incredibly handy as it gives you an overview of when to expect wild food to appear.

We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there is something for every literary palate. A guide to over 200 types of food that can be gathered in the wild in Britain, 'Food for Free' explores the history and folklore of the foods as well as explaining how we identify them and the best ways to cook and eat them.He won wide acclaim on the publication of the original Food for Free in 1972 – which has never been out of print since – and again with the publication of the full-colour edition in 1989. Photography and illustrated with in depth descriptions it is a great little pocket book for anyone I was recommended this by a friend and I am so grateful for the advice. Beautifully illustrated and written, 'Food for Free' will inspire you to take more notice of the natural harvest that surrounds us, learn how to make use of it and conserve it for future generations.

A great thing about this book is that it does not only tell which things are edible but also provides full detailed recipes on how to cook them. Also falls a bit short in terms of highlighting possibilities for mis-identification, but I guess that onus falls on more detailed books.A little rubbing to the edges of the dust wrapper with a small nick to the head of the lower panel at the join. Practical advice on how to pick along with information on countryside laws and regulations on picking wild plants helps you to plan your foray with a feast in mind.

It's gone through several editions since its first publication, the most recent one being in 2003, and now it's on kindle, with photos replacing the coloured drawings.
