About this deal

Eager for anything more by the author of Angelmaker and The Gone-Away World, I grabbed Titanium Noir ASAP and loved it. He certainly knows how to look after himself: he fights fast, smart and hard, and is able to quickly improvise to his advantage, but injuries still hurt. They're admired, envied, and hated, and they tend to keep to themselves, particularly after a few rounds of T7 treatment.

Nick Harkaway’s Cal Sounder is everything I could want in a new sci-fi detective: he’s smart and resourceful, good in a fight, needling of power and capable of irritating damn near everyone he meets, and willing to risk everything he has to solve his case. Looking back at the books above, you’ll notice they share a thread of individuals caught up in oppressive, unreasonable systems — and that theme also animates “ Some Desperate Glory” by Emily Tesh. In a near-future Britain, a simple operation to insert a chip in the brain allows access to the Panopticon, a network enabling friends to share thoughts and see through each other’s eyes. Now, any good cop would avoid the paperwork, but Harkaway really added to the case files this time and I don’t get paid overtime. As Cal delves deeper into the investigation, it becomes evident that the roots of the crime run deep and threaten to shatter his world and the lives of those around him.

For Moremi, suffering from depression and fear of abandonment, it means she need never be alone again; when she falls in love with Orpheus, she can be certain he shares her feelings. That balance tilts later on, but the book remains a mystery, a detective story, a procedural, much more than an allegory or modern myth (however much it is those things too). Nick Harkaway finally delivers a follow up act to Gnomon (an absolutely incredible novel) with a much tighter, quieter, and fun novel. Hardaway nicely infuses tension and intrigue as this crime investigation morphs into a near-future dystopian noir mystery.

There are only a few thousand Titans worldwide, all thanks to Stefan Tonfamecasca's discovery of the controversial T7 genetic therapy, which elevated his family to near godlike status.

He likes: oceans, mountains, lakes, valleys, and those little pigs made of marzipan they have in Switzerland at new year. What if there was a drug, available only, from one source, that could extend human lifespans by centuries? So when one does turn up dead, Cal has the right insider knowledge and connections to investigate it without becoming public knowledge, especially because his ex-girlfriend, Athena, is not only a Titan herself but also the daughter of the man who invested T7, Stefan Tonfamecasca.Harkaway ( Gnomon) pulls off an artful blend of science fiction and hard-boiled detective story in this excellent outing. Only the richest and most privileged can afford the therapy, and it makes the Titans almost godlike on earth. G. Ballard’s geeky younger brother', 'William Makepeace Thackerary on acid' and 'a British mimetic speculative godgame novelist'.
