Following reading with writing reinforces the message that this is school business, rather than something valuable and enjoyable in its own right. If you mention the exact time it took you to read the pages in each session, you can learn about the fluctuation of your reading speed through various books and throughout the day, learn which time is optimal for your reading, and when the reading should be avoided. This journal is perfect for those who want a simple no-muss no-fuss space to record their reading history.

Because I’m often looking back on books I read years ago, I may not fill in all of these spaces (see that whole issue of remembering what even happened that I discussed above). This Log is wonderful for people who not only want to track what they have read, but what they want to read someday. Printable wall charts to display in your classroom each term showing when children have read to an adult or read at home. Regular reading expands their vocabulary and helps them to read more fluently and accurately; these are skills children can transfer to other subjects in school, too. You can keep a hand-written reading journal using a notebook and a pen, or you can keep an electronic one on a computer or tablet.

Instead of having a passive reading diary, it is more challenging and exciting to have a social reading diary. Encourage active reading skills: Active reading is the activity of reading to understand and evaluate a text. If you are doing something wrong your reading speed will start dropping, and you may need to take some corrective measures.

A reading diary with comments is a brilliant tool to use to help your child learn to love reading and read more frequently. This journal also has ample space to record your thoughts on books, and also space to track your bookish favorites.
