About this deal

Unconsciously formed Hawkwind the link between the hippie culture of the 1960s and the punk movement of the 1970s. The 1985 album ‘Chronicle of the Black Sword’ forms the basis for this live set but Hawkwind wove other songs related to the subject at hand into this on-stage rock opera (very loosely related in some cases) in an attempt to tell the story of Elric.

Atomhenge, the home of Hawkwind’s catalogue from 1976 – 1997, continue their series of definitive re- issued editions of these classic albums with the release of ‘Live Chronicles’.

Feb 1994: Griffin Music, GCDHA0136-2, USA 2CD includes reprint of Michael Moorcocks Elric novel "The Dreaming City".

The author himself appears at various junctures to enhance the narrative flow with dramatic prose and the band themselves are present and correct with their trademark fantasy style space rock full of chugging extended riffs and overblown swishy synthesizer abuse. Even from the time of early Christian historiography, cronistas were clearly expected to place human history in the context of a linear progression, starting with the creation of man until the second coming of Christ, as prophesied in biblical texts. The Hammersmith Odeon dates on 3 and 4 December were professionally audio recorded and the stage show video taped. A dead chronicle is one where the author assembles a list of events up to the time of their writing, but does not record further events as they occur.

C. Van Houts, Memory and Gender in Medieval Europe: 900–1200 (Toronto; Buffalo: University of Toronto Press, 1999), pp. Former manager Douglas Smith had set-up GWR Records for releasing albums by his roster of bands, significantly Motörhead. Can someone tell me from which year the remastered version with the extra Micheal Moorcock narration came out? A pounding rendition of ‘Master of the Universe’ ignites the set with its bludgeoning main riff and the chaotic sonic attack of ‘Fight Sequence’, apparently used as a backing for actors sword-fighting on stage during the shows, assaults the senses with its unhinged intensity. The double album, originally released in 1986, was a recorded document of the band’s ‘Chronicle Of The Black Sword’ stage show of 1985, based on the Elric series of novels by Michael Moorcock. The appointment of the official chronicler often favored individuals who had distinguished themselves by their efforts to study, investigate and disseminate population-related issues.
