Hi guys, excellent video, unfortunately I just got my SD 1520+, it is awesome with excellent streaming capabilities, unfortunately my nas got crazy to the point that I have to let the Synology technicians try to fix it remotely, unfortunately they couldn’t and we have to reset the network, after that I did ask the technician why went I tried to register my nas and paid for the 2 extra years of warranty the site says I cannot because this ds 1520+ has been discontinued, but is not the case with older models, and the technician told me that this model have a few problems with the hardware and around or after 2 years some of them get broken and for that Synology not only discontinued this ds 1520+ but they also don’t want to deal with exchanging this unit, and as this technician told me is being a lot of replacements world wide, unfortunately he recommended me that if I can change it just go and do it, the chances of losing my investment in a short time are big, he recommended me to go to the ds 920+ but as I have 5 drivers I can’t, so he say the other solution is or remove 1 drive and get the 920+ or upgrade to the 162xs+, well…. The newer DS1522+ features a dual-core AMD Ryzen embedded R1600 that, although arriving with half the cores of the Celeron in the DS920+, has a higher CPU frequency and total achievable frequency in turbo/burst when needed.

Having a hundred applications is a major selling point of Synology NAS, but they’re of consistently high quality. It seems the limitations on background processing in iOS make syncing difficult and I found the DS Photo app limited due to that. That said, users will be surprised to learn that this CPU also does not feature embedded graphics, so therefore the DS1522+ will be less CPU efficient at handling multimedia or VM deployment than the DS920+. But, the Atom on the DS1517+ got access to up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and the new model comes with 8GB of DDR4, and cannot be upgraded. That’s not saying the DS1520+ is cheap because it isn’t, but when you balance its cost against 240TB of hard drive capacity, then the enclosure isn’t the major expense.

Where we noticed this the most was that the web interface to the DSM was very responsive even when the box was being worked hard by connected systems.
