About this deal

So while I'm not a beginner I'm certainly not great yet and not looking to play professionally just enjoy my own practise of favourite songs every few days. fully weighted action keybed allowing every dynamic and subtle music expression of your touch, with heavier response in the lower register and progressively lighter in the upper register with maximum 128 polyphony notes. You need a Phillips head screwdriver to attach legs to keyboard base; the separate bench came with an appropriate tool). They also come with a Super Articulation Lite feature, with compatible voices promising to simulate the tone, resonance, and material characteristics of the instruments they’re emulating. Even if you’re not going to use the digital piano in any music production scenario, it’s still great to hook it up with an external device like a laptop to have the instrument play your favorite piano tracks based on midi files that you can quickly get on the Internet.

Piano legs are made of wood wrapped in lightweight metal to reduce the overall weight, making the piano durable and enhancing aesthetics. You can plug it into devices to take virtual lessons, and if you prefer privacy like I do- you can use headphones! As a result, the DDP-80 will strongly appeal to people who are ONLY interested in playing piano, without ANY bells, whistles or extra features. And as far as the action goes, they are both dual sensor actions and realistic, but the Donner will be a heavier action – which one you prefer depends on whether you prefer a heavier or a lighter action.

The black keys have a subtle matte finish on them, and while the white keys at first look to be shiny smooth plastic, they have a REALLY subtle matte finish as well – so while they are nowhere near the finish you will see on a Roland FP series or a Casio PXS series, they are just a tiny bit less “smooth and shiny” than the keys on a Yamaha P45 or P125. The package did include a single piece of cardboard large enough to stretch across the keyboard, which we used to rest it on while attaching the legs — and that worked like a charm! There are two rear panels, one containing the power switch, a red power indicator light, and a volume knob. Where the Casio scores large, however, is in it's slightly diminished form, looking for all the world like a simple MIDI controller but packing the sound engine and speakers you need inside a frame that's genuinely luggable from room to room (and house to house) rather than merely dispatching with legs and a stool. While the DDP-80 isn’t as heavy as a real piano, it’s certainly still not that easy to move around, so for all who might not have that much space, they could consider an alternative product from Donner from their range of portable digital pianos, or decide for a different maker, if they find a better one.Additionally, Donner has teamed up with professors from Berklee College of Music to offer the Donner Berklee Tutor Course Series, a unique set of music courses available free to the public and suitable for beginners.

Donner is a music technology brand founded in 2012 that has grown from strength to strength in its short 11-year life so far. The PSR-EW425 and PSR-E473 have 76- and 61-note touch-sensitive keyboards respectively, and offer an impressive and all-encompassing 820 voices apiece. MSRP (might vary depending on your region), and a grand piano would cost tenths of thousands of dollars. And the best feature is that it has one lovely piano sound set, so no listening to the kids scroll through a million presets looking for the fart noises! We bought the Donner DDP-80 instead, which has a deeper sound, louder volume, and much softer sustain pedals. We do not have space for a traditional piano and weren’t thrilled about having a keyboard sitting somewhere in the house. The only thing I would change is I wish it had a retractable key cover to protect the keyboard when it is not being played. I have played the piano for years, so I am not a beginner, and did not need the added beginner lesson book, which was quite good.

And while it is heavier than a slab style piano, the legs are removable so you COULD still definitely use this in a performance given the powerful speakers and available line out – and it would look pretty cool on a stage. We were pleased with the amount of screws dedicated to each leg, ensuring that the DDP-80 will stand very durably on its legs. Whilst this is a piano clearly built for the beginner who has an interest in decor, I do think there will be interest here for amateur music producers. If you are near a TV or a complex magnetic environment, there is some chance that the sound and resonance of the piano will be affected. And, just like an acoustic piano, there are no visible buttons, screens, dials or ports – so at first glance, to someone who might not know any better, this COULD actually be mistaken for an acoustic piano, especially with the wooden finish. The keys’ dynamic range also comes across as a bit lacking, as we found that there were not many velocity points between the DDP’s softest and loudest qualities — at least in terms of its standard voice.
