This became heartbreaking at times but as the novel comes full circle you understand why the decisions she makes are detrimental to those around her. This adds to the enjoyment of this novel, as it feels like you are getting three stories in the one novel. Soms wordt er niks anders verteld dan de geschiedenis terwijl het naar mijn idee geen toegevoegde waarde heeft in dit verhaal. I've read some of the negative, nitpicky (in my opinion) reviews about all three of these books, and while I agree with a few of the points made, I don't think any of the negatives about the series really dampened my enthusiasm for reading it. These three closely bonded girls enjoy a rare idyll in the dreamy grounds of the family’s grand estate, Castle Deverill. Although the second in a trilogy it could easily be a stand-alone novel because Montefiore has made the transition absolutely seamless by using subtle references and character’s reminiscing to fill in any gaps.

The story does bounce around quite a bit from character to character but for me the heart of the book was the story lines of JP and Martha. Fall in love with beloved bestselling author Santa Montefiore's epic tale of romance, secrets, family and friendship.

Don’t try to read it by itself, it’s too complicated a story and it needs the enrichment from the beginning. I love all your stories, The Beekeeper’s Daughter would be my second choice, but they are all wonderful and it is hard to choose a favorite.
