The Bollinger vineyard estate has 152 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Champagne area in the grand crus and premiers crus with a style derived from Pinot Noir grapes; grown in the very best grand crus of Ay, Bouzy and Verzenay. To make the highly-esteemed Special Cuvée, grapes are predominately picked from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. Bollinger’s quest for perfection begins long before the delicate bubbles and elegant complexities of its wines are revealed in your best crystal flutes. A sip of Bollinger’s Special Cuvée and you’ll immediately notice the depth and subtlety of the Pinot Noir grape, which forms the pillar of the House’s style.

Fresh from one of the last great Champagne houses of the region, this classic Champagne will put a smile on any bubbly lover’s face. Pinot Noir predominates, a demanding grape variety with an intense character which forms the backbone of the Bollinger style.Drinks will be chilled in 30-45 minutes and will be kept cold for several hours, especially if kept in the shade.

You’ll find it wonderfully structured and velvety, with notes of fresh strawberry, redcurrant, cherry and spice. A proportion of the wine (approximately 15%) underwent its first fermentation in oak barrels, adding further complexity, and around 50% of the non-vintage blend is made up of reserve wines, a higher-than-average proportion, that contributes to the consistency and depth of flavours of this Champagne. Since 1829, this moderately small house has worked tirelessly to acquire the finest vineyard sites, now totalling 163 ha, to guarantee the highest quality wine.

In 1911, Georges Bollinger's British agent gave him the idea for the name Special Cuvée - special written the English way, without an accent. This is nice, but to me nothing special (but I admit to like Blanc de Noir, so maybe just too much Chardonnay for my taste). Champagne Bollinger continues more than 50 years of 007 and the Bollinger / James Bond relationship. Unusually for a Champagne house, Bollinger have been grape growers as well as producers from the beginning.

Special Cuvée is the result of the delicate blending between harvest grapes and a majority of reserve wines, including some aged in magnums for more than 15 years in Bollinger's cellars. More than a hundred years later, the name of Bollinger's key figure champagne still symbolizes both its expertise and its history.
