Brenda Longman took over in 1981. In 2001, when the new owners of Sooty, Hit Entertainment, overhauled the production Sheila Clark became the voice of Soo in the second and third series of Sooty from 2001 - 2004. Sooty and Sweep appeared as surprise guests on The Chris Moyles Show in his "Birthday Show" for BBC Radio 1 on 18 February 2011. [22] In 2017, Sooty and Richard Cadell appeared on the BBC games show "Pointless Celebrities" where they read out a selection of questions on children's television, including "which member of the royal family did Sooty squirted in 1955 (Prince Philip). Cadell, 54, is only Sooty’s third handler in the character’s 70-year television career (a landmark that makes it the longest running children show in the world). He took over from Matthew Corbett, the son of Sooty’s creator, Harry Corbett, in 1999. The Sooty Show is cancelled by the BBC, changes to Thames Television and is aired on ITV (1968–1992)

That’s absolutely one of the key things,” Cadell agrees. “Particularly in the last couple of years that we’ve all been living through. George wrote that 25 years ago and it’s still on the button.” Bobby Davro hosted a Sooty parody sketch called "Sooty in Soho" on his sketch show in 1989, which saw him doing an impression of Matthew and depicting Sooty and Sweep owning a brothel. The sketch was interrupted by the real Matthew Corbett showing up and assuring the audience that the Sooty which Davro had was an imposter. He then produced the real Sooty, who promptly squirted both Davro and Matthew with his water pistol. Cadell made his first appearance on The Sooty Show as a 15-year-old guest performer when he was named Young Magician of the Year by the Magic Circle. He forged lifelong friendships with the team and when Matthew, who is now 74, hung up his gloves in 1999, he suggested Cadell as his replacement. Wink Taylor, Alex Skerratt and Richard Cadell are writing the film. Matthew Corbett will appear in the movie, Cadell has confirmed. He pretty much looks identical to this, and pretty much does the same thing – so Sooty has been able to live in children’s bedrooms and in schools, and in all manner of places, on the hands of fans and be exactly the same thing.
