About this deal

On the flip side, purchasing jet fuel for your Toyota Corolla wouldn't make much sense either. Not all cameras are able to fully take advantage of the higher-end speed rating specifications, especially those found in the UHS-II format. The UHS Speed Class is more commonly used nowadays than the Speed Class and many high-end cameras require at least a U3-rated memory card for many of its functions, such as recording high-resolution videos. The UHS Speed Class mainly refers to the minimum sustained write performance for recording videos and came about due to 4K-capable video recording devices needing faster write speeds. As a rule of thumb, 4K-capable recording cameras will usually require at least a U3-rated SD card. SD cards rated at V30 usually have a write speed of up to 30 MB per second while V90 cards can reach up to 90 MB per second. In this case, V90 cards would perform better especially on sequential burst shots. The camera’s buffer would clear significantly faster when you are using V90 cards since it has a higher burst write speed. Sequential write performance across all capacities was pretty close to what Sabrent quoted; however, read performance was around ~35MB/s less than what they claimed (specifically the higher capacity models). That said, transfer speeds were still solid across the board.

Around a decade ago, memory cards used to have only a single class ranging from Class 2 to Class 10. The classification is based on the write speed offered by the memory card. Class-2 proposed the minimum speed classification, while Class 10 was the highest available at the time.As the storage on an SD card increases, so does its price. What isn't so obvious at first is that buying a single, large card, rather than two or three smaller cards to achieve the same overall storage capacity is going to be much more expensive. For any other camera then opt for a V60 or V30 class memory card. It is significantly cheaper compared to V90 cards and also offer decent performance. With this, you can get a higher storage capacity SD card or even get two memory cards for the price of one V90 card. An SD card's speed class with be shown on the front of the card in a circle, and will be a number anywhere from 2 to 10. Speed class is the minimum speed in MB/s that a card can transfer data. Class 10 (10 MB/s) is the fastest as of this writing.

However, it should be noted here that the speed class does not necessarily specify the actual speed performance of a particular card. For example, you cannot conclude that a V60 card may not offer better performance than a U6 card.

Our stand-out best SD card is the Transcend SDXC UHS-II U3. With a Class 10, V90, U3 and UHS-II rating, we thought it would be fast enough to capture almost anything modern devices could throw at it, but we weren’t expecting the speed results we got.
