We used household items that would have a similar effect though! How Long Does Homemade Kinetic Sand Last? The earliest reference to waterproof sand is in the 1915 book The Boy Mechanic Book 2 published by Popular Mechanics. The Boy Mechanic states waterproof sand was invented by East Indian magicians. Think about storage as well when getting kinetic sand, as it can tend to dry out and become crumbly when it is left out for too long. Ideally, you want to keep the sand in resealable bags or in an air-tight container. This way, it will stay moist and malleable for years. Plus, having a proper storage container also makes cleanup a lot easier. This recipe is scalable to be as big or as small as you want. It is loosely based on how much sand you use. If you use a cup of sand, you will have about a cup of kinetic sand to play with. There are so many different kinetic sand sets out there that it can be overwhelming when deciding which one to get. Consider how much sand you’re looking for first.
