About this deal

Frozen in action and rendered in great detail, side-by-side together, they look like the universe’s most deadly boyband. A few factions have Combat Patrol boxes instead – these are a literal army in a box, designed to fit perfectly into Combat Patrol games of around 500 points or a power level of 25. Each includes an HQ choice, a Troops choice and some specialist units that showcase how the army fights, giving you not only the perfect way to play small games, but a great foundation on which to build your galaxy-conquering force. Since the release of Indomitus, the Warhammer community has been awash with some of the gorgeous, unique models that come in the set. In my humble opinion, there are two that stand out about all others: the Judicar and the Primaris Captain. So, we deploy our units as directed by the manual: three Assault Intercessors on one side of the board and five Necron Warriors on the other. And just like that, battle begins. Necron Turn 1 Necron Warriors: The mainstay of the Necron phalanxes, these bipedal warriors obliterate their prey with relentless volleys of atomising gauss weaponry. Each model comes supplied with a Citadel 32mm Round Base and has a choice of heads and weapons.

There’s plenty of Warhammer enthusiasts, like Henry Cavill, who enjoy the painting aspect of the hobby more than the competitive play. Some even make a career out if it, such as Angel Giraldez, who is renowned as one of the best painters in the fandom. Whatever your preference, both these sets have three models (Space Marine Assault Intercessors or Necron Warriors, respectively), six paints and a brush. Get in! Setting the Scene

Whilst both the Elite and Recruit Editions match the Command Edition with range rulers and dice, datasheets, and the transfer sheet, the Command Edition includes a swish, hard-wearing gaming board (unlike the Recruit and Elite edition peasants who have to make do with a paper mat) and enough push-fit terrain to make your living room look as if it’s just been hit by an Exorcist Launcher. Thus began the battles between Roburte Guillethwaite’s Space Marines and the Necrons of the Lizzekh Dynasty. Warhammer 40,000 Command Edition Starter Set Review – Battle Report Introduction So, whilst these are based on Estimates (especially on the Necron side as we don’t have comparable unit prices yet), it really puts into perspective the value of the boxed sets above and what each sprue is worth were you to buy those models individually.

After the plastic has been decanted we have the card divider we’ve come to expect in Warhammer boxes. These are usually far more visually impressive than they have any business being for the function they serve. The Artful DividerThe Command Manual contains six easy-to-play missions designed to slowly and gently introduce players to the game and all its rules. Thus, I set up the gaming board, the (shamefully unpainted) terrain and figures, the Command Manual and the the rulebook in front of the two biggest 40K noobs I know: myself and my girlfriend, Lizzie.

Warhammer 40,000 Elite Edition — Kraken Gaming Ltd

A great piece of artwork makes it very clear that this is Necrons vs Space Marines whilst really capturing the feel of the setting. Some lovely cosmic horror and grim darkness. Warhammer 40,000 Elite Edition Starter Set Review – The Sprues The ghoulish and spindly – and also concerningly fragile-looking – Necron Warriors await, along with their Canoptek Scarabs. Necron Warriors If you’re an absolute Warhammer novice, the Recruit Edition is a great option. It contains two starting armies – a Space Marines Lieutenant and a squad of Assault Intercessors to pit against a Royal Warden, Warriors, and Scarabs for the Necrons. As for the heads, each model’s noggin will need to be twisted around its body and shoulder to get it to sit in the right place – another thing that isn’t obvious from the guide that a beginner may trip up on. Remember: be gentle and patient with your plastic, and you’ll get there. Necron Plasmacyte

Though it leaves me wondering, what about all of those other awesome Models we got in the Indomitus Set? Sprues G & H which have some awesome models like the Judiciar, the Chaplain and the Skorpekh Lord? Those moulds can’t have been used purely for Indomitus right? Games Workshop is always getting better at bringing dynamism to push-fit models and are finding more ingenious ways to conceal and/or limit mould lines. Soul Wars was a massive leap forward for push-fit. The Indomitus era is a bit mixed. Terrain Sprue C builds assembles Thermo-Exchanger Shrine, whatever one of those is. Compared to the other terrain in the box, this is the piece that really stands out, simply because it’s so different to everything else. The mid-tier is likely to be the most popular of the new sets as this comes with 2 larger armies now including the Destroyers and the Bikes. It’s worth noting that the Elite Manual instructs you to build all ten of the Necron Warriors with Gauss Flayers and the first Mission requires these. Outside of that, however, it’s really up to you. I decided to build five with Flayers and five with Reapers since the datasheet allows you freely mix up what you have. Warhammer 40,000 Elite Edition Starter Set Review – The Game The Command Manual advises you build the Assault Intercessor Squad first, so that’s where we’ll begin. Space Marine Assault Intercessor Squad I was able to repair it easily enough but it did make me question whether these are the best models for a beginner to be having a go at. Certainly, the Elite Manual advises building the Intercessors first so there is that. Range rulers and dice – These essential accessories cover you for movement, shooting, close combat and more.
