About this deal

With a 19mm silk dome tweeter, the R1700BT delivers smooth treble and does well to avoid any harshness. Add to that the fact that the phase anomalies introduced by these three bass units can be unpleasant, and I just wasn't thrilled. So I started noodling on what to do about it. Initially, I was not impressed. Really, the sub seemed to add very little and I had trouble getting it dialed in to where I was happy. The Edifier R1850DB speaker is a device that delivers high-quality sound for an enhanced audio experience. It offers a sleek and modern design, making it suitable for various settings. The speaker utilizes advanced audio technologies to produce clear and immersive sound reproduction. Although you may want a speaker that produces amazing sound, it should also fit your studio’s aesthetic. Edifier R1700BT

A familiar design meets new technology. Featuring Bluetooth 4, the R1850DB bookshelf speakers can be paired with any device. Simply sync your smartphone, tablet or computer and listen to your favourite music, videos or games. The latest Bluetooth 4 wireless technology is great for playing from multiple devices. So I connected the sub to speakers via a thin RCA-3.5mm cord that came with the speakers, and the output is pretty weak. I have to crank the sub volume to full to get a decent sound, whereas I could only turn it halfway max on my previous system with a receiver. It has a variable LPF range from 40Hz to 150Hz, not sure what the best setting is. I can't tell if changing the LPF re-directs bass from the speakers to the sub or if they are overlapping certain frequencies. Am I supposed to turn the bass down on the speaker EQ settings when connecting the sub? R1700BT units have a solid build quality with ideal weight to keep them in place. In addition, the exterior casing features a high-performance MDF wood with vinyl walnut woodgrain wrap to add a decorative touch. This makes the speakers ideal for any studio or home application. A light on the front of the active speaker will change colour to show what the current input mode is. This light will change to blue when you are in Bluetooth mode. The Edifier R1700BT provides remarkable features with an excellent balance between design and performance. It delivers clean and distortion-free sound. On the other hand, the Edifier R1850DB will enable you to enjoy audio from any wireless or wired source. Although the bass is sufficient, there is an option to add a subwoofer. Sound quality These are a set of speakers that I could and would use on a daily basis. If you’re in the market for something reasonably priced and of real high quality then I’d suggest you grab a pair for yourself. Being that we’ve already reviewed R1850DB’s younger sibling, the R1800BT, we suggest taking a closer look at that article for a more in-depth analysis of the unit’s sound. Conclusion

The Edifier R1850DB comes with a 4-inch woofer that manages low and most midrange frequencies. Also, it uses a 0.75-inch tweeter to handle the high ends. This is a standard configuration with many studio monitors. The angular cabinet shape and included removable grills allow for flexible positioning either horizontally or vertically, but vertically is recommended for the best performance. These appeared to hit nearly all of my targets except one low-priority one (balanced inputs), and included the ability to add on a sub later on if I wanted, so I took a chance. I don’t have any experience with the Edifier brand but I’ve heard good things. Turns out this was a great move. The Edifier R1700BT has a rich and detailed sound profile. It achieves this by using Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Dynamic Range Control (DRC) technologies. In particular, the DSP will suppress noise and eliminate the distortions to deliver crystal clear sound even at high volumes. Also, the DRC balances the loudest and quietest sound ranges to stabilize volume levels.

To enable Bluetooth mode you can select the relevant button on the remote control unit, or you can press the main volume control knob on the active speaker. Anywayz, I turned down the Bass control on the Edifiers and turned up the Polk's volume, while adjusting the frequency point on the Polk until I was happy with the crossover. So what does it sound like? Well remarkably natural. Bass is punchy and controlled rather than trying to elevate the low end and distorting itself at higher volumes a focus is on speed. A wise tuning choice because at only 4 inches there is only so much air this woofer can move so why make it unusable when played over 75% volume? Instead, 85% - 95% is where this becomes loose and deformed which I think is really good because it gets loud enough to easily fill medium-sized rooms. Edifier R1850DB has a remote control. The recessed buttons feel natural, but the remote is inherently flimsy and will likely not last long. Specifications Edifier R1700BT I live in a busy street so there is always some sort of disturbance even when windows are closed so I end up keeping the volume above 70% most of the time. But during silent nights 50% volume would suffice for a room sized of 10x20 ft for a good experience. Music played via Bluetooth seems 5-10% higher. These speakers produce different volume levels based on the source quality of the audio thereby you'll not have consistent audio experiences. FLACs, HQs, WAVs, 24bits are best formats to listen with these speakers which is SIMPLY MAGICAL but MP3s or youtube, soundcloud, gaana stream listening will feel fairly balanced. Movie watching with these speakers via Prime, Netflix, jiocinema, etc will definitely make you feel the need for higher vocal volumes. With Subtle but noticeable improvements over the R1700BT, the R1850DB has excellent build quality with durability that should deliver for many years. The speakers are pretty loud with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 85dbA, which is more than enough for most applications. For example, it can project the sound across the room when watching TV. Also, the distortion is minimal even at maximum volume, although I discourage you from running max capacity for long periods.

These speakers are best budget-to-mid set of speakers for those looking for that high-quality music experience in India. You will certainly not be disappointed with these speakers but an addition of a sub-woofer will make you feel complete. For example, if you aren’t happy with the audio low-frequency output, you can opt for a budget subwoofer down the line which isn’t an option with the R1700BT. The 19mm silk dome tweeter is also fortified to protect against punctures which can happen on cheaper, low-quality speakers. While these are two great speakers, I also wrote a full article on the best edifier speakers over here. Controls Winner: Edifier R1850DB This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items.Just like the R1700BT, the 19mm silk dome tweeter delivers the similar pristine high that we are used to. The bass reflex ports have been moved to the front to allow for more flexible positioning without sacrificing any bass response. I'm also wondering if I just need a better cable or an actual pre-amplifier to get a full bass response. I saw the ART DJPREII pre-amp recommended on another thread but really don't want to spend the money unless I have to. Having said that, it still delivers great quality audio and features like DSP and DRC noise reduction.
