In the movies he’d starred in The Instead, he made a living playing poker and betting on horses and dogs at Gil’s betting shop, staffed by grumbling Gil Roach (Frank Mills) and his sharp-tongued assistant Joan (Deirdre Costello).

Things didn’t always go to plan though, especially with the taxman on Robby’s tail and Jan always likely to walk out on him. Jan, too, had her problems. She wanted Robby to change but she also loved him just the way he was. Starring Ray Brooks, Sharon Duce and Lisa Geoghan, the series concentrated on the ups and downs of small-time London gambler Robbie Box (played by Brooks) and the effect that his poker addiction has on his long suffering girlfriend Jan Oliver (Duce) and her daughter Debby (Geoghan). TheBigDeal has the potential to be a great show but Vogue Williams is a poor choice of presenter. Usually like her but it seems she only got this job because she missed out on the Ireland’s Got Talent gig. Watching #TheBigDeal, I like the concept but don't think Vogue is the right MC. Also quite underwhelming, no atmosphere. Then again, maybe I'm just so used to the many other over produced talent shows. Jedward being better judges than Simon Cowell & Louis Walsh for one whole hour was what I needed this weekend #TheBigDealSpeaking about Fox TV's interest in the show, Vogue said: 'Obviously, if I got invited to go over and make The Big Deal in America it would be absolutely brilliant because I love hosting the show.'

Jesus one episode in and the moaners are out in force. Just change the channel if you don’t like it. It’s nice see Irish talent being showcased again. Well done to all the contestants, they were brilliant, particularly Bello Duo. #TheBigDeal Despite the success of the show before its release viewers were not blown away by Vogue's presenting skills. Liking #TheBigDeal hopefully Vogue relaxes a bit more for the rest of the series because it's like she has no energy.In the second season, Robby’s efforts to become respectable led to his taking over The Dragon Club, but life didn’t get any easier. Lots of love for #TheBigDeal on here tonight. I’ll just add, love the judging panel, I’m no fan of Vogue but she might have won me over (I know ?? .. I think she might be quite lovely) and Ireland really does have wonderful talent ?
