The extra pop in colors makes scenes lusher, while the contrast takes care of clean separations between well-lit and dim areas. However, competitive games such as CSGO or Apex Legends are out due to the 46ms input lag which adds a hit to responsiveness. The projector doesn’t seem to have any kind of CFI frame interpolation that could help to improve the overall motion performance but we were not expecting to get any as the extremely low price wouldn’t allow for it. Inputs The BenQ TK800M strikes a beautiful balance between practicality and capabilities. This model is considerably cheaper than laser projectors, but its performance in 4K HDR movies or games is comparable up to a certain degree. The winning factor in this product is its very high brightness threshold which boosts contrasts and vibrancy compared to what a typical projector can do. As such we didn’t have any problems during our gaming session, responses to our commands were very fast and at no point did we notice any delay in our actions. So if you are a casual gamer as we are and you like to use this projector for mixed use then rest assured that it will serve you very well in this regard. What we found disappointing is that while it’s sibling, the HT2550 comes with a suite of image processing features called Cinema Master this is nowhere to be found here. To be honest the TK800 didn’t have it either so it’s not like we lost this feature here or something and it seems that this is kept only for the CineHome series that the HT2550 belongs to and it’s a class above the one we find the TK800M. Instead of that BenQ has added the Football and Sport modes that are supposed to improve skin tones and various colors depending each setting while also improving on the dialogue against the rest of the sound effects.
Pro 3) Full-featured Gaming Projectors: BenQ is one of a few brands that offer explicitly “gaming-focused” projectors. Switching to 1080p content on Blu-ray stands up better to image scrutiny and we also used some streaming services in HD and 4K to further test and in the majority of tests the BenQ TK800 puts up a commendable and colourful performance that is likely to impress the intended users. The BenQ TK800M is powered by a 240-Watt lamp that supports four modes which also affects its lifespan. The four modes listed are Normal, SmartEco, Economic, and LampSave which have varying outputs. BenQ says that the bulb will last between 4000 hours, 8000 hours, 10000 hours, and 15 hours respectively for each of these modes. Compared to older models, a modern projector will have much better image quality and a more powerful lamp while requiring less frequent maintenance and making less noise. Thanks to improvements in low-power diode light output and the long lamp life of blue laser diodes, modern projector light sources last several times longer than the bulbs in traditional projectors. New BenQ models also benefit from additional features such as built-in Wi-Fi, HDR capability, and improved color wheel processing for more realistic color. You can also opt for ceiling mounts with the BenQ TK800M if you are building a personal theater around it. There are three M4-sized screw points at the bottom which should be sufficient in securing the device. The lightweight nature of the projector is excellent to have at this point since you don’t have to overbuild the mount for it. The white segment in the color wheel is what gives this projector the necessary boost in brightness but obviously this comes at the expense of color accuracy but at this price range we shouldn’t expect more as it is in reality a trade-off of specs.

Conclusion
It doesn’t set itself out to be a home cinema projector or one that movie fans could use day in day out, it just doesn’t offer a decent enough performance to fulfil those users goals, and there are better machines out there for that. No, it has simple goals that won’t please the fussy videophile and it couldn’t care less about that in all seriousness. The TK800M menus consist of six categories with Picture having all the settings for colors calibration and brightness, Display that include various image settings, Installation that has some setup settings, Basic System Setup, Advanced System Setup and lastly Information that reveal various details like input source, picture mode, resolution and colors. Although there are many settings available there are very nicely categorized and you can find anything you need with ease. For those dealing with a projector for the first time it may take a bit of time to find your way around all the menus but in general it shouldn’t be very hard after a while. In keeping with the brand’s experience selling gaming monitors, BenQ markets some highly innovative projectors for gaming, including some of the first 4K native resolution 60Hz gaming projector models available. They also offer budget projectors designed for easy setup and portability. How BenQ Compares to Other Brands The BenQ TK850 3000-lumen projector produces UHD pictures at resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels. This projector supports HDR10, providing incredibly bright, colorful content. The device has a dynamic Iris and enhanced contrast, making it a good choice for home theaters. The film that came out in UHD format recently has an astonishingly sharp and vivid image and it has become somewhat of a reference disc for most of out tests as of lately. The TK800M was able to perform admirably as the combination of the new 0.47″ DLP chip with the improved optics can produce an amazing 4K image that brings out even the tinniest of details. You could distinguish every single hair in the lion’s fur while the green jungles and forests provided ample of details for the projector to show. Pro 2) Outstanding Color Accuracy: BenQ projectors consistently win high marks for color accuracy. Their 1DLP models use a light processing engine with 30-bit color, allowing for full DCI-P3 Color Space and over 95% color uniformity.

Let’s see now how the unit fares in the input lag tests. Our measurements showed an input lag of 43.2ms which is very good for gaming but not exceptional. For any kind of casual gaming it will be more than enough but if you take your gaming sessions very seriously then there are other projectors that offer better input lag for such occasions. In HDR, the TK800M has great light output, too. On my 0.9-gain screen I was able to measure just over 50 foot-Lamberts (fL). To put this in context, a good light level in a dark room is around 15 fL, while you want that up around 30 with ambient light during the day. The extra brightness of the BenQ allows for some nice HDR highlights that really pop while using the projector in a dark room. Overall the BenQ does what it sets out to do and that is to be a party centre-piece for BBQ’s in the garden while watching the World Cup or 4K premiership football via Sky or BT. It is designed to be used and then put away, projected against a white wall or bed sheet.
