About this deal

David Price's novel Alphabet City (1983) tells the story of a man who leaves London to explore his homosexuality in the "wilderness of Avenues A, B, C and D." [205] Alphabet City is patrolled by the 9th Precinct of the NYPD, located at 321 East 5th Street. [192] The 9th Precinct ranked 58th safest out of 69 patrol areas for per-capita crime in 2010. [193] Part of the rap section was used in the 1990 Ween song " L.M.L.Y.P.". Prince's "No!" scream intro also replaces the word "shit" on the radio edit of their 1993 song " Push th' Little Daisies". The episode "The Pugilist Break" of Forever is about a murder that takes place in Alphabet City; the episode highlights the history of the neighborhood and its current development and gentrification. [49] From the standard avenue width of 100 feet (30m), Avenue A was reduced to 80 feet (24m), Avenues B, C and D to 60 feet (18m), the width of most cross-streets. [53] "Incapable of use as thoroughfares to and from the City," wrote the city council, "they cannot be considered as avenues in the proper Sense of the term." Instead, they should "correspond as far as possible with the Old Streets [below Houston] of which they will form the Continuation & be called by the Same names & be regulated by the Corporation as Streets."
