There have of course been many, many posts about it on this forum - I don't really post here myself, but I do enjoy lurking as a bit of a guilty pleasure and it's very common to see excerpts, commentary and theories from those who read and enjoyed a 40k book that hit some very different beats to the norm. However, there is one aspect of the book's core themes that hasn't really been highlighted here before as far as I can see, so I decided to break my 'lurking only' rule to share some thoughts. There will be spoilers. For the best viewing experience, we recommend using old reddit version - https://old.reddit.com/r/40kLore/ Listen to it because: explore a story told across the millennia that delves deep into a pair of fascinating necron characters, their relationship and their plans for the galaxy. Before the being called the Emperor revealed Himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Review copy provided by the author – many thanks to Robert Rath for sending me a copy of The Infinite and the Divine, in exchange for my honest review.

Time Dissonance: As immortal Necrons, Orikan and Trazyn speak casually of centuries and even millennia. It's mentioned that Necron stage plays can take over a decade to be performed in full, and Orikan regularly spends whole centuries in meditation and thinks nothing of it. I absolutely loved this book, from the interesting view of the Necron perspective of the galaxy, to Trazyn just collecting anything that catches his eye. Our ships are without atmosphere, unpressurised,’ Orikan said. ‘Do orks… breathe?’ A pause. ‘They have lungs.’ Prepare to repel boarders, Orikan signalled. In case.” History requires two parties – the historian and their audience. Without that, one is just talking to oneself. So kindly stop screaming and you might learn something.”

Either this, or Arch-Enemy, as their antics range from comically petty to horrifyingly cruel. Time Skip: Played with. Most of the book concerns Trazyn and Orikan's repeated visits to the planet Serenade over the course of thousands of years, and each time the planet has changed markedly. To the two of them, however, their Time Dissonance means their experiences are more or less continuous. Painting the Medium: The same scene at the tribunal is repeated multiple times with slight differences, to show Orikan's attempts to Save Scum.
