As a leading conservation charity, the health and welfare of an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) and our own animals is always paramount. As such, we do not generally recommend the zoo as an appropriate environment for ESAs. Your dog will need to get used to the harness being attached to the scooter. This is a brand new experience for your dog. They will need to build their confidence before getting comfortable with scootering. Hearing loops are available at the admissions area, reception and in our gift shop. Please let us know if you find they are not working.

Fibre, or roughage, is a plant material that cannot be absorbed, and it essentially bulks up your pet's stool to make them firm, ensuring an easy passage through the gut. If you’re worried about falling, you can also wear other safety gear, like gloves, elbow pads, and kneepads. This protective gear is optional but will protect your body if you fall. If your adult dog is unfamiliar with mobility devices, they must be desensitised to them first, or they may feel frightened. Leave the mobility device close to your dog so they can get used to it slowly. Over time, try sitting in the wheelchair or mobility scooter while your dog is nearby before moving around.
