EAST. Card number 49, Salmon—Wisdom/Inner-Knowing. We begin at the beginning with the East Card which in this case is Salmon. South represents substance on the Medicine wheel as opposed to spirit which is in the North. The South Color is red and the South season is the life-affirming summer. Summer is the time of youth and learning–a time of seeking identity. Mouse is placed in the South of the medicine wheel by many tribes—the place of the children’s lodge, the lodge of trust and innocence. Mouse is a timid and meek animal and tells you never to swell up and become self-important. By nature, Mouse is quiet and unassuming, flexible and adaptable. Mouse is usually on high alert because Mouse is food for the many. Mouse is aware of the dangers all around them and knows how to beat a hasty retreat when necessary. Mouse may suggest you consider exiting a certain unpleasant situation. Otter in the West may be saying to apply your women’s intuition to an inner issue or problem. Think things through using a different energy.
