About this deal

It seems, that some bios recognized that the card was not anymore an H200 but it is changed to the another card.

The dmesg output and mpsutil output shows that it detected *something* new when hot-plugged into New Slots, but FreeNas is not getting updated to attach them. I know firmware 20 is out, and I now wish to upgrade = hopefully then it will detect hotswap. (unless i'm unaware of something) You need the absolute latest firmware (mid-June, version 10, I believe) to enable proper communication between the 9211-8i and the HP SAS Expander. When using the combo of LSI SAS 9211-8i —> HP SAS Expander —> Hitachi 5K3000 3TB drives, the Hitachi drives will only connect at SATA 150 speeds. Drives will connect at SATA 600 when directly connected to the HBA.mps0: port 0xfc00-0xfcff mem 0xdf1bc000-0xdf1bffff,0xdf1c0000-0xdf1fffff irq 16 at device 0.0 on pci2 I came across numerous errors as I tried different tutorials, the biggest one was gaining access to EFI shell. I tried Rufus method, I tried simply formatting the drive to FAT partition and creating /boot/efi/….nothing worked. When something worked, I got this error. “ERROR: Failed to initialize PAL. Exiting the program.” All together, it’s over 50TB to add to my storage. I figure that some will essentially be “server mirrors”, by essentially having everything from a “critical data” server mirrored to the “mirror’s” drives which will likely be in a RAID10 array… And I think if I flash the new firmware over top, and just leave off the -b BIOS or UEFI part, it will remove the BIOS, and I can skip BIOS detection. I need to install ZFS filesystem on this server, so I have to use the controller in passthrough mode, and JBOD. No Raid is required at all. To do this, I need to have the card flashed in target mode, by using the IT firmware.

I went therefore ~65% over my original budget but at least this setup allowed me to connect up to 8 additional disks. IT vs IR Firmware Instead of Megarec.exe, i just ran the sas2flsh.exe -c 0 -o -e 7 command to erase it first, and hoped for the best.If you want to keep using the IR-mode and are happy with the firmware's version then you don't have to do anything. Disclaimer & warning Reboot (should be much faster now in IT-mode) and if you want get into the card's BIOS => it should look very different compared to before.

If you happen to be on a card that doesn’t have the ‘boot to EFI Shell’ option, like me, this tutorial is meant for you. If you have such motherboard skip the section on how to create a bootable drive. TrueNAS 13.0-U5.3, X9SCM-F, Xeon E3-1230 v2, 32GB ECC RAM, 6x4TB WD Red/Red+ in RaidZ2, SAS9211-8i HBA, mix SSD/laptop-HDD boot drives, Solarflare SFN6122F 10G between boxes.Just a note on compatibility with the LSI SAS 9211-8i, the HP SAS Expander, and the Hitach 5K3000 3TB drives:
