Unit 13: Understand the importance of continuing professional development for the Early Years Educator There are no entry requirements for this course at all. Anyone can study for this certification and there is no need to have any prior knowledge or experience. How long do I have to study? At points throughout the programme, your assessor will visit your workplace or placement to complete observations and assessment of your practice. This qualification is suitable for a range of learners either working or wishing to work in early years education and care. The Diploma is also suitable for those wishing to progress to higher education. The Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) enables learners to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow them to work with children from birth to 5 years. The qualification meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 3 full and relevant criteria for a Level 3 Early Years Educator.The early years foundation stage sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide a foundation for good future progress through school and life. Ensure plans fully reflect the stage of development, individual needs and circumstances of children. This course can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.

Mandatory Units

Comprehensive Curriculum: The PDF covers a wide range of topics related to child development, early education theories, health and safety, and effective teaching strategies for young children. Safety and Safeguarding: Training ensures that early years educators can provide a safe and secure environment and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns. Understand why health and well-being is important for babies and children and promote healthy lifestyles.

Assessment and Observation: Professionals working with young children often need to assess their development and progress. The PDF includes guidance on effective observation techniques, assessment methods, and how to use assessments to inform teaching practices. Maintain accurate and coherent records and reports and share information, only when appropriate, to ensure the needs of all children are met. Child Development Knowledge: Learners are equipped with an understanding of child development and learning, enabling them to support children effectively in their early years. GCSE/International GCSE qualification in English language and/or literature to at least grade C or 4

Understand systematic synthetic phonics in the teaching of reading, and a range of strategies for developing early literacy and mathematics. Understand the potential effects of, and how to prepare and support children through, transitions and significant events in their lives. Dependant on learner ability and Centre delivery the Certificate can be achieved in approximately 1 year. It enables learners to progress on to the Diploma.
