About this deal

It was one of the last additions from Aber’s Victorian era, and at the top you’re rewarded with amazing views along the Ceredigion coast and towards Snowdonia. On a clear day you can also see the tip of the Llŷn Peninsula and Bardsey Island. He is a troubled character who tries to solve some murder cases in the area around Aberystwyth, and some of the cinematography is quite reminiscent of Danish noir crime series including The Killing and Borgen. Dai Brainbocs is the evil scientific genius who Louie runs into. Dai is obsessed with Myfanwy and abducted her twice to try to make her love him. Physically he stopped growing aged 14, and has to use a wheelchair to get about. A truly brilliant school boy genius who discovered Cantref Gwaelod, reads and writes runes and even faked his own death in Mon Amour, he is described as a danger to humanity. His Promethean urge to do the unthinkable makes him dangerous, as does his emotional and moral detachment from experiments (e.g. trying to clone Jesus). At the end of The Unbearable Lightness he had found a potential cure for Myfanwy, and had turned his hideout into Myfanwy's idea of heaven as described in a school essay she wrote aged 9. What happened to him after he cured Myfanwy is not explained in the latest book, but he may have been returned to Shrewsbury prison.

It’s certainly a wild ride with plenty of characters both new and returning. I can also say that I had no real handle on how the book would end but once it did the story made so much sense. I was however a touch confused by some of the sub plots and I think perhaps that’s where this book fell down for min in contrast to the first. Debuts don’t often have complicated sub plots and this one took a while to get my head around. The Pier is also home to thousands of starlings which roost there in the autumn and winter months. The best starling murmurations, which occur around sunset, are usually in November, and again in late February and early March, as winter gradually gives way to spring. Old College Yr Hen Goleg – The Old College – at sunset The narrative itself is a little silly and far fetched in a number of places - but this is a novel that's aware of what it is and does not take itself too seriously. The route south of Aberystwyth is one of the quietest parts of the Wales Coast Path that I have walked (and I’ve walked most of it). There aren’t any beaches for quite a few miles, just wild cliff scenery, the occasional swooping seabird and great views in either direction. Borth and Ynyslas Beaches Ynyslas is one of the best beaches near Aberystwyth The petrified forest on Borth beach is only visible at very low tides Aberystwyth Castle continued to be used until the English Civil War in the 1640s. Before that, Welsh prince Owain Glyndwr captured it from the English in 1404, only to lose it five years later. The village is on the edge of the Hafod Estate, a famous landscaped area from the late 18 th century. The mansion around which it was laid out is long gone, but there are still plenty of wonderful walks in the woods to enjoy. Elan Valley Craig Goch in the Elan Valley

David Angel is a Welsh historian, photographer and writer, with over 30 years experience exploring Europe.

Love the world-building and how in the end, it's always about the dames and the girls. Everything is life or death in this universe and everybody plays a part - they may try to run from it, but it catches them in the end. Very Tragic, very Greek. Hope to find the next one in the charity shop soon. It was authorized by an Act of Parliament, thereby avoiding the need for local consultation, though there were many protests against it.
