King of Shadows Summary | SuperSummary

This is one of those novels I would give six stars if I could. An easy, easy five stars. If you haven’t read any of the Matthew Corbett novels, you need to do it right now. Begin with SPEAKS THE NIGHTBIRD, then get ready to become completely obsessed like I have. Where all you do is eat, sleep and read Matthew Corbett. Life doesn't get any better. Goodness, but this book is even better than I remembered. This is excellent storytelling with extremely interesting characters (well, mostly Nat and Shakespeare, but the others are all right). As a first-time reader of the novel, I was fascinated with the descriptions of Elizabethan England. This time I was especially drawn to the characterization for Nat and Shakespeare, and to the details about the "magic" of theater (something I appreciate a lot more now than I did as a teenager). Let's Dance · 2. Upgrade · 3. The Meaning of Victory · 4. The Stowaway · 5. Manhunt · 6. Gayle Gossip: A Closer Look Considering references to characters as shadows in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and its metatheatrical elements, Cook focuses on how Shakespeare’s plays make audiences aware of the construction of drama as an act that is aware of both the embodied condition of actors and the projected creation of characters. Character is an attribute that requires comprehension if drama is to be in any way coherent, but such understanding arises out of simulations which are dependent upon culturally specific categories. After discussing character scholarship in the context of cognitive linguistics and embodied and distributed cognition, Cook, observing the rude mechanicals’ performance and multiple overlapping identities, argues that such complex cognitive artifacts create narrative gaps that can be fruitfully analyzed in the context of consciousness and audience experience. KING OF SHADOWS | Kirkus Reviews

The main premise of this eight book, the one about the dependence of rational thought on valid input from the senses and from the brain, is a great one in retrospect, once our young gumshoe arrives at an explanation, but I guess I wanted to see Venice more than to spend an entire book on a lost island.Wu: If he is to bring the other weapons here, then I will take the Sword of Fire to the Underworld. It is my sacrifice to pay.

Susan Cooper, who won the Newbery Medal for The Grey King (of the Dark Is Rising sequence) has full control of her magic. In King of Shadows (the title of the book comes from Midsummer Night’s Dream) she shows that she understands the magic of the theater; how a group of people in an enclosed space can make the impossible happen. In this splendid novel for young people, she has translated this understanding into a ravishing story. Matthew considered that it was, this palace was haunted. But maybe, just maybe, the ghosts could be chased into daylight."Nathan Field is part of a company of young American actors trained to perform some of Shakespeare’s plays in the newly-built replica Globe Theatre on Bankside in the late 20th century. But on the eve of rehearsals in London the youngster falls ill, and wakes to find himself another Nathan Field in a different London – in 1599. The latest addition to the Matthew Corbett series is another brilliant book, I have said it before, this series is my favorite book series ever, McCammon has such a rich fantasy, the writing is so good, and you never know what to expect because each book is so different from the next. There's only two things I truly love in my life and that's my daughter and Robert McCammon's Matthew Corbett series. Were talking about, quite possibly, the best reading experience I've ever had. It is absolutely immense, but you don't need me to tell you. Wait a second, what do you mean you've never heard of Matthew Corbett??? Surely you jest. Well just in case you're actually being serious, let me enlighten you. He went to search for the Blade in the place where Gith was reported to have gone missing, the Nine Hells. There, Jerro was able to retrieve the blade from Levistus, the Still Lord of the Fifth Circle of Hell, and his servant Mephasm. He then fought the King in a titanic battle in the tiny village of West Harbor, where he banished the King. The Blade was shattered in the fight, however - blasting Jerro himself into the Hells - and one shard was embedded in the chest of the infant who would grow to bring about the King's final destruction. The King of Shadows might be the best of the series so far in my opinion. There are disgusting and horrific aspects of the story I didn’t like, but the overall story is absolutely a five star read.King Azoun IV has rewarded you for recovering the Golden Chalice of Kurast and in turn saving the life of his daughter with a castle and lands in the north east of Faerun known as Winterkeep. Upon arriving at your new home you are met by an emissary sent by Open Lord: Piergeiron the Paladinson who informs you that the High Lords of Waterdeep need your help to defeat the King of Shadows and save Faerun.
