About this deal

Despite the fact that reapplying is extremely pleasant and I think it will be a very refreshing gesture for the summer, I don't think I'll replace it when it's finished because I've been finding other options with better performance. Or maybe yes... Maybe this classic should always remain in any collection... In any case, if you have the opportunity to travel to Cologne (Köln), don't hesitate to visit the brand's stores and get this olfactory souvenir, that's how entered my collection for the first time.

I expected to have more to say, but after about 25 min this is nearly completely gone. It's just a lot of lovely, natural topnotes, and probably no fixatives. In this case, it's alright with me seeing as how this is a classic blend, I don’t think they messed with it or modernized it, from start to finish this smelled like real oils and/or extracts. Very fresh, 0 chemical smells. In modern times, eau de Cologne or "cologne" has become a generic term. The term "cologne" can be applied to perfume for men or women, but in American English usage typically refers to perfumes marketed toward men. In 1811, the continuous house numbering was changed to a system of numbering streets separately, as is common today.

re: your comment above and with your knowledge and experience, you should do a list of “instead of X, do Y”— e.g. Instead of TF Neroli Portofino, do Fleurs d’Oranger. What do you think?! Yeah, it is, true enough, yet in Germany hardly anyone really treats it that way... at least judging from people I know. Can’t find much difference between 4711 and Hermes colognes except it’s poor lifespan that the smell disappears in 20 min

Sabetay, Sébastien (1960). Les Eaux de Cologne Parfumée. Sta. Maria Maggiore Symposium (in French). P.S. People often complain about 4711’s poor sillage and longevity, which is true. However, this is because 4711 is an EdC, not an EdT or EdP. Therefore, it should last for 2 hours at best. Since 4711 does not, it is probably about 2% concentrated, giving it its weak properties. I’ve wished for some time that they will release an EdT or EdP of the original, but I think it will never happen. Created in 1792 by Wilhelm Muelhens, 4711 was a blend of citrus oils and herbs, not very different in style from other 18th century citrus mixtures. One of the first successfully marketed was Gian Paolo Feminis’s Eau de Cologne. Feminis moved from Italy to Cologne, Germany, and his Eau de Cologne, born in 1709, gave rise to a new scent family and put Germany on the fragrance map. Feminis’s Eau de Cologne is now sold as Jean Marie Farina Cologne by Roger & Gallet, but I prefer 4711 by a small margin. MPFlorian: I smelled 4711 a few weeks ago in a perfume discount store. I really liked it, and I’m interested to try some of its flankers. Jordi: Sometimes I wish there were more well made simple colognes as this one or I knew more of them. Something just nice and easy a kind of “jeans” of perfume for the days you don’t feel like “dressing up” with a “Shalimar” .

Eau de Cologne ( French: [o d(ə) kɔlɔɲ]; German: Kölnisch Wasser [ˈkœlnɪʃ ˈvasɐ]; meaning "Water from Cologne"), or simply cologne, is a perfume originating from Cologne, Germany. [1] Originally mixed by Johann Maria Farina (Giovanni Maria Farina) in 1709, it has since come to be a generic term for scented formulations in typical concentration of 2–5% and also more depending upon its type of essential oils or a blend of extracts, alcohol, and water. [2] In a base of dilute ethanol (70–90%), eau de cologne contains a mixture of citrus oils, including oils of lemon, orange, tangerine, clementine, bergamot, lime, grapefruit, blood orange, bitter orange, and neroli. It can also contain oils of lavender, rosemary, thyme, oregano, petitgrain (orange leaf), jasmine, olive, oleaster, and tobacco. Mostly older) people who really like it might use it after shaving or their morning wash up too for that extra boost. But I don't think anyone would really expect it to last throughout the day. It's just supposed to give you a feeling of freshness. (Hola Pirita, eso es interesante. ¿Te lo pusieron en la frente?) Victoria: Thank you for explaining this cologne tradition! In western Europe perfume has such a specific usage that it’s hard to conceive it having other roles, but of course, cologne to begin with was used more like a health and skin care product rather than just “scent.” It was made based on grape spirits and could be drunk.

I got introduced to this as a child by my late aunt Mary, who used it all her life mainly to freshen up during long train journeys, which is why we always had a bunch of travel size bottles to toss in our purses. Oh, I have a bottle of Tosca. After my mother died a few years ago, I acquired her collection of perfume and other scented products, including soap and talcum powder. (About half of these items were gifts that I and my two brothers had given her over the years.) A 25 ml spray bottle of Tosca EDC was among the 30 or so bottles of perfume that were to be found in various places around the house, and about two thirds of it remains. I think that this was probably one of the fragrances that Mum bought for herself. According to the above source, Amer, your sip of Tosca would have scented your breath with citrus oils, soft aldehydes, patchouli, ylang ylang, amber and sandalwood! May I say that I have recently followed in the footsteps of my Queen: Sophia Loren! She rolls her hair in Chanel spray perfume. Miracle of miracles I found one of my high school scents: Jai Ose online. Oh this smells rich on me, and the memories of the 1970’s… Well, you had to beeeee there! It has a bit of dark looking oil in the juice, and I mix it with Frizz Ease on my wet hair. Well, my hair is softer, and I love the effect. Now all I need is the husband! LOL I am now obsessed with this! I've been wearing this 2 days straight ( probably for the entire week-- the weather in Manila now is scorching) , and the simplicity of this is just uplifting. The closest cousin to 4711 is Guerlain's Eau de Cologne Imperiale, composed some seven decades later, and favoured by the French aristocracy. The differences are subtle; 4711 is lighter and more floral, while Imperiale is richer and more herbal, thanks to good doses of rosemary and verbena. Performance is roughly comparable, although 4711 has much more modest sillage. Still, it's perceptible as a skin scent more than a couple of hours in. This fragrance reminds me of my late European father. He was a man of simple means and a hard working blue collar worker and this was his go to fragrance. We always had a bottle in the bathroom. The smell reminds me of him. Simple but understated. Fischer, Carmen (2011). " 'Französisch Kram' aus Köln" (PDF). Damals (in German). Vol.43, no.6. pp.70–71.

It's probably suitable for men and women above the age of 30 but "old souls" in their 20s can absolutely wear this magnificent fragrance. minutes later - As it settles its odd to me, because more of the orange begins to emerge and it gets sweeter in tone. The rosemary is tastefully placed...maybe a little bit *too* tastefully, because I don't smell it at all. It's not a favorite note of mine to wear, so that's fine. I love this fragrance. I bought it in the 27oz splash version, but popped the cap and poured it into a spray bottle. After a shower, I'd spray it above my head and let the mist fall upon me as I breathed in deeply while my eyes were closed. It's cheap enough to not worry about wasting any, and even with doing this daily, the bottle lasted me nearly a year. La Face, Francesco (1960). "Le materie prime per l'acqua di colonia". Victoria: Maybe, I should visit Cologne at all in a perfume pilgrimage of sorts. 🙂 I have no excuse, since we are so close! Ulrich S. Soénius: Mülhens, Fabrikanten von Kölnisch Wasser. Inexpensive as it may be, there's a reason 4711 is still going strong - it's a timeless classic. Drugstore cheapies may come and go with the passing of each generation, but 4711 will outlive them all. You can't beat the price compared to (similar) much more expensive fragrances, specially considering how similar it is to like Guerlain (Cologne Imperiale) and Tom Ford (Neroli Portofino).
