commentaries, and none of the series' actors are invited to contribute their perspective. However, the end result is still a richer HDMI cable - use this to connect your Blu-ray players to one of the HDMI inputs on your TV. Some DVD players connect the same way despite not displaying an HD signal. When I list my favorite ingredients for an action film, it looks like the recipe for A Moment of Romance: Barbie is the biggest movie of the year, obliterating box office records and the minds of men’s rights podcast hosts. The theatrical run benefited from the Barbenheimer phenomenon, along with friend groups who dressed up for the film like an event, not just another movie. But read: None of that is necessary to enjoy Barbie, a film that’s just as delightful alone at home as it is with a crowd. This shift to 1.33:1 optimization, along with numerous shots Simon has since deemed more artistic or meaningful via their original 1.33:1 composition, imposed several additional challenges during the remastering process. Thankfully, HBO invited Simon and executive producer Nina Noble to oversee and guide the later stages of the project, going so far as to delay the widescreen version's debut by several months so the duo could ensure the 1.78:1 image was as strong as it could be and, ultimately, as much to their satisfaction as possible. Problematic 1.33:1 shots were subtly altered to preserve artistic intent, visible equipment and crew members were carefully removed from the edges of the 1.78:1 image, and shots involving out-of-sync actors (who were previously off-screen) have been dealt with. (Further details about the remastering and Simon's involvement can be found here, along with a full overview of the process. I highly recommend it if the particulars of the widescreen vs. full frame debate are of any interest to you whatsoever. It's a terrific read.)

Now, let me be clear: I am thrilled filmmaking has moved away from actors feeling they should risk their lives for one incredible shot. Yeoh’s most recent hit — Everything Everywhere All at Once — shows a good action movie can be made in humane fashion. But I also carry a conflicting respect for this astonishing stunt work. Audio Commentaries: The final season of The Wire offers some of the best commentaries, with both cast The Wire is not about Jimmy McNulty. Or Avon Barksdale. Or crime. Or punishment. Or drugs. Or violence. Or even race," David Simon wrote in 2004. "It is about The City. It is about how we live as Americans at the millennium, an urban people compacted together, sharing a common love, awe, and fear of what we have rendered in Baltimore, St. Louis, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. At best, our metropolises are the ultimate aspiration for the American community, the repository for every myth from rugged individualism to the melting pot. At worst, our cities -- or those places in our cities where most of us fear to tread -- are vessels for the darkest contradictions and most brutal competitions that underlie the way we actually live together. The Way of Water will make you feel something. You will love it. Or hate it. Find it touching or cringe-inducing. That’s the magic of Cameron and his collaborators. They make bold choices and though you might not remember the name of a Na’vi, you won’t forget how it felt to watch them.

Sometimes you buy a Blu-ray because it’s a great movie you can watch over and over again. Sometimes you buy a Blu-ray because it makes the most of your fancy TV or speakers. And every once in a while, you buy a Blu-ray that does both, like Avatar: The Way of Water. While Blu-ray might lag behind for now, an Ultra HD version of the format is due out at Christmas. This will support HEVC decoding and higher-capacity discs, with movies encoded at a higher bit-rate than for streaming. In other words, 4K Blu-ray will have better image quality once again. HEVC and Full HD GANG WAR IN MILAN stars Eurotrash regular Antonio Sabato as Salvatore, a grocer in Milan who also serves as a pimp, controlling a good percentage of the saleable female flesh in the organized crime-ridden area. His nice little prostitution business is interrupted when one of his best girls (“She makes more in a day than the Queen of Holland!” he bellows) is found dead in the pool of a fitness club he frequents. McQueen’s work only improved, but his films became paradoxically more commercial and less visible. Widows is one of the best thrillers of the past decade, is co-written by Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn, and has an absolutely bonkers ensemble cast of mega-celebrities: Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya… The list goes on. But the trailers were abysmal, and after a middling box office, it seemed to be all but abandoned by its distributor.

UPDATED: Warner makes it official: The Superman: 5-Film

All of this might not seem like much, but the combined effect when the film’s in full motion is much more. In short, the Blu-ray version looks sharper, cleaner and punchier. It’s a cumulative effect, where if you watched the Blu-ray version of a film and then switched to the streamed version, you’d notice that the latter wasn’t quite as good. The same is true for all streaming services, with Netflix, Blinkbox and the other services that we tested producing similar results. Sound quality surprises in store for fans of the show, from the childhood of Prop Joe (1962), the early exploits of a young Omar (1985), and Extras: Language(s): English, Castilian Spanish, French, German, Latin Spanish, Subtitles: Castilian Spanish, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Latin Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Interactive Menu, Screen ratio 1:1.78, 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital 2.0, Behind the Scenes, Bonus Footage, Commentary: 22 audio commentaries with cast and crew, Three prequels that explore life before 'The Wire'; Paley Center for Media event: 'The Wire' Reunion All right, we’ve been waiting for Warner Bros. Since the TV is sending audio to the sound bar, you need to connect the sound bar to an output on your TV. The Criterion release of Small Axe includes new 2K masters, new conversations between McQueen and writer Paul Gilroy, a three-part documentary about the 1981 New Cross house fire, and more.

My history with THE FINAL TERROR was foreboding. Would I be able to actually sit up straight, watch the movie, and find out what the hell happened to those campers in the woods? Or would the sweet recollections of teenage slumber fill my mind with a drowsiness that even a new HD transfer could not overwhelm? Between an ultra-successful film career ( The Shawshank Redemption) and an ultra-successful TV career ( The Walking Dead), Frank Darabont created the theatrical equivalent of an R-rated episode of The Twilight Zone. The Mist, based on a short story by Stephen King, focuses on the micro reaction to an unknowable large traumatic event. Gilliard, Jr. (D'Angelo Barksdale), Seth Gilliam (Ellis Carver), Jim True-Frost (Roland "Prez" Pryzbylewski), Jamie Hector (Marlo The film itself doesn’t really have much of a consistent tone, wavering between a classy piece of gothic horror during some scenes and a relatively generic (if well-lensed) slasher film during some of the murder sequences. Eggar and the rest of the ladies are in fine form, with Griffin’s Patti standing out as a genuinely interesting, charismatic character, and an early sequence with all of the potential actresses gathered around a table talking ranks as one of the best introductory interactions between characters of the films of the time, but it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, one character simply vanishes only to show up dead randomly later, and the mask treads a line between frightening and silly that bounces into both arenas often in the same scene. The excellent U.K. label Eureka is bringing to Blu-ray a 2K restoration of the difficult-to-find 1975 action film. Though you probably haven’t heard of this Bullet Train, you’ve almost certainly watched the film it inspired: Speed. A bad dude plants a bomb on a train that will detonate if the train drops below 80 kilometers per hour. It’s up to a train conductor, played by the legendary Sonny Chiba, to save the day. Three years ago, Disney launched its streaming service with all of its major animated releases available anytime, anywhere. It seemed the era of the Disney Vault had come to a close. The shift from limited runs to perpetual availability had one unexpected negative side effect: Without fresh releases every few years, would Disney be motivated to continue restoring and re-restoring its library? As with a sound bar, the best connection for a home cinema system is HDMI ARC, since it can send the audio and video signals both ways. This is even more useful with home cinema systems since many of them include a Blu-ray or DVD player. Based on the DC character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the Superman films star Christopher Reeve as the legendary “Man of Steel.”
