Gaming performance should be the real strength of the Kraken Pro, and they certainly deliver. Battlefield 1 sounded excellent through the Kraken, with an authentic thud to explosions that accurately convey the panic of firefights. The Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 delivers an immersive surround sound gaming experience to enhance your aural situational awareness. You’ll always hear where the enemy is coming from, and where your team is located, to strike with precision. What’s more, the engine is entirely customisable via Razer Synapse, so you can determine the best placement for the audio channels to best fit your own listening preferences. It’s definitely tuned for gaming, though, as I did find music listening to be a little bit of an Achilles heel. On the whole, it’s good, with a great level of bass that many are sure to love. Playing an “Electronic Pop” playlist revealed an engaging high-end, without many traces of sharpness, and a low end that delivers plenty of punch. The Kraken Pro V2 is a top-notch headset. It’s built remarkably well, looks great, and delivers an outstanding performance in games – all while remaining very comfortable over long gaming sessions. For the asking price, however, I have few complaints – but I do feel that they could be a little bit better for music listening. Made of Bauxite aluminum, the entire frame of the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 is lightweight, flexible and incredibly durable. It has been tested extensively to withstand the rigors of pro-gaming. The memory foam earpads are big enough to completely and comfortably cover most ears. They're surrounded in faux leather along the sides and breathable fabric on the surfaces. The headband's underside is padded with slightly firmer foam, with the same leatherette. It’s slightly bulky, but feels pleasantly plush.
Audio quality is yet another area of strength for the Kraken Pro V2; the headset offers an enjoyable listening experience across a wide spectrum of applications. The ears' exteriors match the headset's color, while the forward-facing inside surface features translucent white plastic with RGB lighting. The lights match the earcups' outsides, but you can program each ear and earcup to display different colors and effects using Chroma Studio in Razer’s Synapse software. If you want the ears to light up on the go, Cosplay Mode lets you run the lights from a USB power bank. Cosplay Mode only supports static colors, color cycling, and color “breathing” modes; you can't customize colors.The top of the headset is layered with leather-like material and has “Razer” etched into the headband. The underside comes with a relatively shallow sheet of foam, with this portion coated in cloth. The Kraken Pro V2 feels great in the hand, and has been built with perhaps the perfect blend of materials at this price point.
