Lens Performance - Images have a decent amount of detail at both ends of the lens, with a good control over purple fringing, although pincushion distortion is visible in some shots. Continuous shooting mode records images at full 20.1 megapixel resolution. The S3500 is slow from shot-to-shot. Using an 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of graph paper (1/4 inch boxes), and placing a small 6" ruler on the paper, using natural sunlight through the window, I took several Macro test shots, ensuring that the image was completely on the graph paper. We don't normally see an improvement in sharpening on Nikon compacts because the noise is exacerbated so much in the process. However, because the noise is suppressed so well on the S3500, you can see a mild improvement on the pictures.
