Some medicines may be affected by magnesium hydroxide or they may affect how well magnesium hydroxide will work. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are already taking: - salicylates. This leaflet does not contain all the information about your medicine. If you have any questions or are not sure about anything, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Maalox plus is used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, indigestion (upset stomach with stomach pain and burning, nausea and excess gas, sometimes called dyspepsia) and excess gas in the stomach and intestines (flatulence or wind). Medicines used to treat joint pains and abnormal chemical reactions in the body such as penicillamine quinolone-type antibiotics eg ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, nalidixic acid, moxifloxacin (if you are prescribed a course of one of these antibiotics it is recommended that you take the antibiotic at least two hours before or four to six hours after taking this medicine)

Maalox Plus tablets should not be taken at the same time as other medicines. This is because Maalox Plus Tablets can affect the way other medicines work. If Maalox Plus Tablets are taken within one hour of any other medicine, they can affect the uptake of that medicine into the blood. Aluminum Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide which are antacids to reduce stomach acid which help relieve the symptoms of heartburn and indigestion. Some medicines used to treat infections such as tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, rifampicin and ketoconazole Maalox should not be used in patients who are severely debilitated or suffering from renal insufficiency, or if there is severe abdominal pain and/or the possibility of bowel obstruction.

Very common (≥1/10), common (≥1/100 to <1/10), uncommon (≥1/1,000 to <1/100), rare (≥1/10,000 to <1/1,000), very rare (<1/10,000), not known (cannot be estimated from available data) This product contains sorbitol (E420). Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects get serious or lasts longer than a few days. Also tell them if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet Antacids are known to interfere with the absorption of drugs such as tetracyclines, vitamins, ciprofloxacin, ketoconazole, levothyroxine, hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, chlorpromazine, rifampicin, cefdinir, cefpodoxime, rosuvastatin. Medicines used to treat some allergic, inflammatory or abnormal immune reactions such as glucocorticoidsSigns of an allergic reaction include: a rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue There are no or limited amount of data from the use of aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide in pregnant women. Animal studies are insufficient with respect to reproductive toxicity (see section 5.3). Maalox is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy and in women of childbearing potential not using contraception. Caution should be exercised when prescribing to pregnant and lactating women. Medicines used to treat stomach ulcers and acidity such as ranitidine or cimetidine (H 2 antagonists) This medicinal product contains 0.0068 mmol (0.157 mg) of sodium and 50 mg of sorbitol per 5 ml dose. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines you can buy without prescription, including herbal medicines.
