About this deal

Acts of Vengeance! Loki’s villainous schemes play out across the Marvel Universe, as an array of heroes face unfamiliar enemies! For Doom, it means fighting The Punisher! Though Doom appears in several issues of this event, his role is not that big. But seriously, at this point in his classic career, Doom became the villain that legitimized new heroes in the Marvel Universe. Cage was a cool character but after facing down Doom, the Hero for Hire had major cred with fans. Medieval Times Iron Man #149-150 (1981) by Bob Layton, David Michelinie, and John Romita Jr. The graphic grimoire continues with a section of Doom pinups from Fantastic Four Annual #1 (1963, by Kirby), Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1(1964, by Ditko), Marvelmania Poster (1970, by Kirby) and Quotations from Chairman Doom 1984 ( F.O.O.M. #4 Winter 1973, by Robert Cosgrove Kirby); Doom’s entry from the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition (1985, by Gruenwald, Peter Sanderson, Byrne & Kirby), spoof ads from Marvel 1989: The Year in Review (by Mignola, Gregory Wright) plus a Marvel Masterwork Pin-up by Ron Frenz & Sinnott from Fantastic Four #358. This fantastic graphic novel served as a culmination of Doom’s attempts to save his mother from Hell. Triumph and Torment reestablished Doctor Doom as a potent magic user in the Marvel Universe and contained some insanely cool Mike Mignola artwork.

s Loki: Agent of Asgard #6 and #7 demonstrate this well. The overall narrative thrust of the series follows Loki's journey to change his destiny and decide his own fate. These issues make Doom a formidable foe for him to face down, as he believes that Loki will bring about the destruction of Latveria in the future. Jorge Coelho and Lee Loughridge handle art duties and their rendering of the desolate landscape where Latveria once stood is cold and harsh. What makes him more than just this is the definition and texture his character has received over the course of the many stories he has featured in since his creation in 1962. Overall, this omnibus is a book worthy of the name Doom, as it includes most of his best stories, but I can’t help the feeling that Doom himself wouldn’t be too happy with some of the elisions found within, especially in titles in which Doom himself starred. In other words, this isn’t going to end up in Latveria’s library as Lord Doom’s Complete Official History, but as a primer for the average Doom-curious person it’s more than enough to get an idea of why Doom is Marvel’s best villain. Doctor Doom: The Book of Doom Omnibus highlights the Latverian ruler’s first encounters with the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Uncanny X-Men, and the Avengers, and a number of memorable storylines and stand-alone tales.Stern was at his absolute writing peak here and the unlikely art team of Mignola and Badger defy any superlatives I could use. The art is simply magical, especially the mesmerising colouring, also courtesy of Mr Badger. It’s augmented here by Macchio’s Afterword to the original release.

DOCTOR DOOM: THE BOOK OF DOOM OMNIBUS by Stan Lee | Goodreads

One of the reasons Doom's dynamic with the Fantastic Four is so interesting is the solo vs. family aspect that makes for an involving tension; they always have someone to count on, while he is frequently alone. Admittedly the Mole Man had appeared in #1, but that tragic little gargoyle, for all his plans of world conquest, wouldn’t truly acquire the persona of a costumed foe until his more refined second appearance in FF #22.He is considered one of Marvel’s greatest villains. His iron mask and emerald cowl make him instantly recognizable. We’re talking today about the one and only Victor Werner von Doom, alias Doctor Doom!
