The Alcohol Experiment: A 30-day, Alcohol-Free Challeng… The Alcohol Experiment: A 30-day, Alcohol-Free Challeng…

I made it 25 days. I ended my streak because I was spending a night in a lovely apartment in a village in the European countryside with a balcony overlooking nature, with a view of the stars above, and my hosts had graciously offered me a bottle of local wine along with a fresh fruit plate. This is the context in which alcohol is made to be consumed. I enjoyed the wine, the constellations, nature, and a long chat with a loved one, and slept in peace. Janel didn’t consciously increase her drinking. The problem evolved over time and as life’s demands and struggles kept piling up. Listen as Janel and Annie discuss how her guilt around drinking led her to This Naked Mind, how she continues to learn and grow using the coping mechanisms she’s learned, and how she’s using her journey to help and equip her children for the future. From his childhood through to adulthood, drinking was just a natural part of life. Even after his father went through rehab and joined AA, Steve held onto the belief that only certain people have an issue with alcohol. Steve continued drinking with the frequency ever increasing over the next 20 years until one article sparked a curiosity in him that completely changed his drinking and his belief system. Steve and Annie Grace discuss coming to the realization that alcohol is the problem, the one piece of knowledge that changed his drinking forever, dismantling the lies alcohol tells you, and so much more! Read this while giving up alcohol for 30 days myself, which was a good idea. Helped me understand the connection between suddenly craving sugar (something I don't normally crave) and alcohol. Although I'm not at the end of the 30 days just yet. It has definitely made me look at my drinking habits, why I drink, how often and I honestly don't feel the urge to drink come the 1st of October.
