About this deal

One of the things that sold me on the Genie is this linear movement is only limited by your slider length, so technically speaking, if you have a 5-metre slider, then the Genie still works. The one thing I wanted from my Syrp Genie was to introduce movement into my time-lapses and to take my videos to the next level, and I’d like to say that the Genie’s done that! I certainly notice the difference in production quality anyway and that’s a big thing for me. Payload: Panning Payload: 33lbs (15kg) | Linear: Payload: 33lbs (15kg) (not recommended to lift more than 3lbs (1.4Kg) in a fully vertical position)

We’ve also concluded that if you’re among those video or timelapse creators who do want or need motorized motion control, the Syrp Genie II 3-axis kit is one of the most simple, user-friendly systems available, and very much worth the investment. Availability | Where To Buy Personally, I found that the best option is to store every plate, screw, and cable in a pouch that always stays with the main Genie devices themselves. Pre-assemble as many little bits of the equipment as you can before heading out on your job/adventure, too, because once you’re on-location, every minute counts. Last but not least, if you don’t do any steep angle motion, you should definitely consider avoiding ballheads entirely. (Beneath your slider, that is.) Just mount the tripod directly to the Magic Carpet. (There are both 1/4-20 and 3/8 threads on the sliders.) Of course, I do not recommend taking new equipment out for important work without familiarizing yourself with it first. However, I put myself through this challenge for the sake of discovering just how easy it is to get to know new gear in general. And the Syrp Genie II system passes that test. Indeed, once you become truly familiar with the whole kit, you only appreciate it more and more. Reliable Performance Using the very latest technology in high-speed wireless communication and motor control, the Genie II offers an unparalleled motion control system, controlled via iOS or Android. Also included is an on-board display for set up without the need for the mobile app, giving you ultimate flexibility when on location. When it comes to my videos I always like to introduce an element of movement into all my shots. I find this is much more immersive for the viewer; it almost puts you into that moment, so I wanted to introducing movement into my time-lapses too.In terms of use cases, Syrp notes that the Genie Micro can be used to capture holy grail time lapse videos. You can easily adjust ramp exposure settings on your camera as conditions change without the risk of jostling or moving your camera. You can also control multiple cameras by using more than one Genie Micro. Amid a pandemic, it may also be useful to remotely control a camera for portraits or video, allowing you to maintain a safe distance from others.

Could the Genie II system still find ways to be more user-friendly? Yes, there is one last complaint that seems to be a common thread among Syrp Genie users: Most or all of the firmware updates cannot be avoided, meaning, you cannot fully use the devices if the mobile app has an update that it wants to give them. You absolutely must update the devices’ firmware before you can start shooting. Device firmware updates are required before you can start filming Do you use a motion control device for your time-lapses? What’s the one tip you’d give everyone looking to take their time-lapse photography to the next level? Let me know in the comments below! Next, get your one (or two) tripod(s) set up, with the legs placed stably; spread them out at a safer angle if necessary. (Especially if there is any wind!) Cameras: Compatible with 100's of cameras including mirror-less, DSLR's, video cameras and smartphones. Refer to specific motion control product details for more. The Genie Mini is designed to be incredibly simple and is beginner time-lapse friendly. The Syrp App is equipped with factory pre-sets so you can start shooting straight out of the box with no technical expertise required. Just connect and shoot! That’s where the Genie Pan/Tilt and Linear come in. They’re created specifically to perfectly control the motion in your video/timelapse footage, so that it is perfectly smooth, and even repeatable. Shoot smooth rotating video, create interactive 360° images of objects and completely automate your product photography when used in conjunction with the Product Turntable accessory and Syrp Genie App. Another thing I’m really keen to try out is setting up my slider at a 45 o angle so my time-lapse can run horizontally and vertically too creating two types of moment – as I said, the possibilities are endless with the Genie! In auto start mode you can set a countdown timer to begin a recording or alternatively set a time and date you wish to begin your shot. Make sure you are running the most recent App on Genie Mini. ios version 1.3.8 and Android version 1.1.0.

Next, let’s state the obvious: hand-held motion panning/sliding etc. is not an option if you want to shoot identical, repeatable video moves, or timelapses. You’ll need motorized control. Whether something is seen as either expensive or cheap is definitely relative, and so that is why we must always include “Value” as either a pro or a con in every review we do. The Genie mini enables beautiful HDR time-lapse, giving your footage a stand-out effect by allowing for greater dynamic range in your final video. Available in both Time-lapse and Panorama modes. Also, you can set up your own dolly system with a skateboard and fixed points for the cord to wrap around. For me, having that extra length is a real bonus and I can’t wait to play around with that function. I’d old school and I’ve always used an intervalometer for my time-lapses. It’s only been in the past year or so that I’ve switched to Magic Lantern (an internal intervalometer than you can install onto your SD card), and I love how easy that is to use. Well the Syrp Genie beats the lot.

Ramp the i’n’ and ‘out’ points of your movement in both time-lapse and video mode to achieve smooth eased movement control. The very first time I set up the entire rig, I didn’t need to read any instructions at all. It was completely self-explanatory, from how all the different parts go together, to the dialing in of keyframes on the app.The Syrp Genie Micro is designed to slide on and attach to your camera’s hotshoe. It’s extremely lightweight (29g) and small (5.2 x 5.2 x 1.7 cm). A full list of cameras that are compatible with Syrp’s Camera Control can be found here. Syrp Genie Micro key features: Simply attach the Genie Mini to a tripod and shoot smooth panning time-lapse moves using the Syrp Genie App. Using the Genie on a slider is a little more difficult as the cords have to be pulled tight, but not too tight otherwise the Genie won’t thread through the cord. Also, setting up the cords can be a little fiddly at first. Charging: An orange light indicates the device is charging and a green light illuminates when it is fully charged. In video mode the Genie Mini moves at a perfectly smooth continuous speed for accurate panning moves.
