About this deal

Sting made his debut as a Broadway lyricist and composer in October 2014 with the launch of The Last Ship. He even joined the cast in that December in an effort to draw in more theater goers. Unfortunately, Sting's celebrity wasn't enough to boost sales, and The Last Ship closed in January 2015. In October 2017 it was announced that Sting has made plans to bring the musical to the U.K., set first to premiere in his childhood hometown of Newcastle, in March 2018. Personal Life Interviewer] Dom, when you played that riff — that thing has been sampled by so many people and used for songs. What do you think about that?

According to the band's guitarist, Andy Summers, Sting had initially intended the guitar riff that "Message in a Bottle" is centred around for a different song. [7] Summers said to L'Historia Bandidio in 1981: "Sting had that riff for a while, but there was another tune with it originally. He'd been fiddling about with it during our first American tour. Finally, he rearranged the riff slightly and came up with the song." Summers came up with, as Sting described, "lovely arpeggiated shiver" during the break prior to the third verse. [7] Sting praised this addition saying, "He'd [Summers] do that – the song would be quite raw and he'd just add these lovely colours." [7] The riff in its final form is built of multiple overdubbed guitar parts, played by Summers. Following the main progression of the song, one part features Summers playing a three note figure featuring the root, fifth, and ninth of each chord in succession. A second guitar part plays the identical rhythm with different harmony notes, adding minor or major thirds to each chord, as well as additional extensions such as eleventh and thirteenth notes. [8] The lyrics of "Lemon Tree" by Sting are a reflection of a sense of boredom, loneliness, and a longing for something new and exciting. The song's protagonist finds himself in a tedious and repetitive routine and is waiting for someone to save him from the monotony of his life. He looks to the outside world for inspiration and turns to his lover, hoping they will bring him some joy. POLICE | Artist". Official Charts. Archived from the original on 26 October 2011 . Tobler, John (2016). "Police - Reggatta De Blanc". In Dimery, Robert (ed.). 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. London: Cassell Illustrated. p.428. Gordon Sumner, better known as Sting, was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on October 2, 1951. He is best known for his singing career, both with the 1980s band The Police and as a solo artist. Sting is also a distinguished songwriter and actor, as well as an active philanthropist in causes from environmentalism to human rights. The Police The chorus is optimistic about the future, with the singer returning to the conversation with his partner where they talked about the blue sky, but he can only focus on the lemon tree. The motif of the lemon tree is symbolic of his frustration with the routine and the limitations he faces, while the blue sky represents the optimism he needs to break out of his cycle. In addition to his musical career, Sting has been active in human rights and other social issues. He and his wife, Trudie Styler, have been married since 1992. The couple has four children. Sting also has two other children from his first marriage. In the Fools Garden version, the chorus contains the lyrics "I wonder how, I wonder why, yesterday you told me 'bout the blue, blue sky, and all that I can see is just another winter tree," whereas Sting's version replaces "winter tree" with "lemon tree."

[11] The lyrics depict a castaway longing for someone to listen to him and then discovered many messages from others washing up on his shore. [11] All last summer I lived with Cheb Mami’s album. Eating, walking, all the time. His voice is an incredible instrument. He does whatever he wants with it, it really impressed me, as did his talent as a musician. I hadn’t got any idea of what he could sing, I didn’t know rai music. Then I saw him in Bercy with Khaled, Rachid Taha and this great orchestra… and Steve Hillage. Very impressed, I began to write a song on this experience and we met. I asked him if he’d like to sing for me, in a way to ‘authenticate’ my experience (ironic smile). He’s a lovely man. He sung without knowing what I was singing. As it happens, it’s about desire, craving. I asked him: just improvise, in arab, on my melody. Later I asked him what he was talking about, he answered that he sang about desire, craving of a loved person. I told him that it was exactly the song’s theme! So the music suggested those words. It was a sort of unconscious and automatic process. I always considered that it was the music which wrote the text. For this album, more than all the others, I began by writing the music, then I went walking and this music suggested a character, a story. Like a sculptor who kneads his material, then notices a nose, a leg. It’s longer, but more organic."However, Sting has either a contradicting, or more explanatory anecdote on how he got Stevie to work on the song:
