About this deal

Glue: We prefer Elmer’s regular white glue for most of our slime recipes because it is quality PVA glue. Dollar store glue or other brands of glue may not work as well. We also like to stay away from Elmer’s Glue All or natural brands. Slime is a science experiment and should be made and played with in moderation. Do not allow children to make their own slime and do not play with slime for an extended period of time.

What’s cool about this slime? First, it stays nice and stretchy for a lot longer. Second, it’s a bit moldable. Third, it has a smooth, rich, and silky feeling texture! If you use a different brand of glue it’s possible it will still work, but we can’t guarantee that your slime will work properly with the measurements used in our recipe. What type of slime activator do you recommend? Slime should not be placed in the mouth. Always wash hands before and after playing with the slime. As you stir the mixture with a spoon, it should start to solidify a little, but a single tablespoon may not be enough to fully activate your slime. (You’ll probably end up needing somewhere between 1 tablespoon and 1 ½ tablespoons.) Slime is called a Non-Newtonian fluid because it’s a bit of both! Experiment with making the slime more or less viscous with varying amounts of foam beads. Can you change the density? HOW TO ADD CLAY TO SLIME How do you make slime? The borate ions in the slime activator (sodium borate, borax powder, or boric acid) mix with the PVA (polyvinyl acetate) glue and form this cool, stretchy substance. This is called cross-linking!

Is clay slime butter slime? Yes, it’s the addition of clay to the basic slime recipe that makes for a fun butter slime. Read on to find out what clay to use and how to make clay slime step by step.

Get your muscles ready for this one! Mixing this will take a few minutes, so don’t get discouraged that it doesn’t happen immediately.

We always recommend using Elmer’s School Glue to make slime. It works consistently to make great slime, and we know we’ll get the results we want. This butter slime is so fun to play with! It’s a simple recipe that kids will love! Make it yellow like real butter, or tint it your favourite colour! No, you don’t need shaving cream to make butter slime. Shaving cream adds a bit of a foamy texture to your slime, but the foam only lasts for a few hours. We hope you love this butter slime recipe as much as we do! You can also substitute the clay and add some cornstarch in for a similar consistency. We would recommend about 2-4 tablespoons of cornstarch.Slime is a polymer. Other examples of polymers are Jell-O, gum and rubber bands. Glue is also an example of a polymer. A polymer is made of long chains of polyvinyl acetate molecules. These chains slide easily between one another making the substance pourable. The reason it’s not that stretchy is from the Model Magic– so adding lotion and oil help to make the Model Magic stretchier and more pliable. This butter slime will be the most stretchy when you first make it. If it sits out too long the clay will start making it harder, so when it’s not in use we recommend sealing in an air tight container to preserve it. You can also try kneading more hand lotion into the slime. We’ve had success using hair conditioner to make slime soft again as well. Sometimes it’s a bit of an experiment to see what will work.

Once I’ve added the initial tablespoon, I usually add one small squirt at a time, mixing well between each addition. Mixtures, substances, polymers, cross-linking, states of matter, elasticity, and viscosity are just a few science concepts that can be explored with homemade slime! If you notice any skin irritation, discontinue use immediately. If you have sensitive skin, wear gloves while making and playing with the slime.

We always like to include a bit of homemade slime science around here! Slime is an excellent chemistry demonstration, and kids love it too! You might even think it won’t work initially, but keep kneading your slime, and it will come together for you! Try placing the butter slime in a bowl of hot water and letting it sit for a few minutes. Once the water temperature cools down enough to touch, knead the slime while it’s in the water. This will help to make the slime more stretchy and soft again.
