About this deal

Take the DDJ-800 wherever you want thanks to its portable design, which is smaller than the DDJ-1000 by 22% in volume and 1.3 kg in weight.

In this video, founder and tutor Jamie Hartley explains how to get started with Rekordbox DJ. Learn how to get started importing and managing your music library! To learn more about using Rekordbox, read our beginners guide found here! Finally, microphones can be connected to the two microphone inputs. Mic one features an XLR/TRS combo balanced input and Mic Two features a single TRS connection. In the center of the looping section is a crucial advantage you’ll want to use: the ‘Quantize’ button. Tap the in-loop button to start a loop or to create an automatic 4-beat. I usually go with the standard 4-beat looping and then use the cue/loop call buttons to shift the loop length as I see fit. Unlike the older Pioneer controllers, the microphone channels are independent and don’t take over regular channels anymore which is great. The auxiliary input is another independent channel and is controlled by a simple volume control, sadly no EQ or effects here but will do for plugging in a phone or MP3 player. The mixer features a stand alone mode with switchable line/phono inputs on both channels. This also means the DDJ 800 is compatible with Rekordbox DVS but you will need an additional licence to use that feature and as you’ll find out later really doesn’t work very well! Performance FeaturesThere are two mic inputs on the DDJ 800, which is somewhat uncommon for most DJ controller units. You can have an MC and a vocalist join in on your mix at the same time. Before connecting the DDJ 800, ensure you have the latest version of Rekordbox installed on your computer, available here . u003cliu003eMust connect the controller to rekordbox DJ to engage FXu003c/liu003eu003cliu003eCan only cue 2-out-of-the-4 channels at onceu003c/liu003e Features and Benefits Audio mixer feature - use the DDJ-800 as a mixer to control the volume of audio input from an external device

There are 4 selectable color FX: Dub Echo, Pitch, Noise, & Filter – applied independently on each channel with a ‘Color’ knob.

How to start using the DDJ-800 DJ controller for rekordbox

The DDJ-800 features professional audio connections. Headphones connect to the front of the controller using either a smaller 1/8th TRS connection or the larger 1/4inch. The main speakers connect to either the balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA line-level outputs on the rear, both labelled master. Move onto more advanced techniques. Start setting loops and use the Performance Pads to trigger Hot Cues, Pad FX, Beat Jump and more. Get creative with Slip mode, Sound Color FX, and Beat FX. How to change settings on the DDJ-800 It’s got a solid build but doesn’t quite meet the same grade as Pioneer’s top-tier controllers. Weighing in at 4.7kg, it doesn’t take much muscle to carry the DJ controller around with you from venue to venue. You can use the DDJ-800 as a mixer to control the volume of audio input from an external device – even when you’re using it on its own*3 – by adjusting the trims, channel faders and EQs. And, when the controller is connected to rekordbox dj, you can use Sound Color FX and Beat FX too. A large Beat FX on/off button indicates when an FX is active by blinking, whilst a level/depth control allows you to shape your sound and set the intensity of the effect. An FX selector will enable you to choose which channel is affected, while beat buttons let you change the speed/tempo of an effect. The mixer can be used as a standalone DJ mixer if needed, and offers RCA/Phono inputs for connecting media players and turntables; however, the effects will only work when using the Rekordbox software.

I’m sure you can find your unique style with an array of Pad FX performance modes. Best Alternatives to the DDJ-800 Though it feels like our advanced DDJ-1000 DJ controller, the DDJ-800 is 1.3 kg lighter so you can comfortably transport it between events. Jog DisplaysThe DDJ-800 can be used as a mixer to control the volume of audio input from an external device. The external input can be adjusted by using the trims, channel faders and EQs, and when the controller is connected to rekordbox dj, you can use also Sound Color FX and Beat FX. If the LCD jog wheel screen doesn’t quite meet your visual needs, the XDJ-RR has more digital displays that your eyes may crave. You can use the same cue/loop call buttons to select pre-set loops in the rekordbox DJ software. If you are a little OCD when it comes to mixing, then pre-set the loops beforehand. The Pioneer DJ DDJ 800 is a brilliant entry-level controller for those wanting to level up their DJ setup to a more professional unit. Compatible with Rekordbox, this controller can be used on a computer on Mac or Windows. In this beginners guide, we are going to show you how to set up the DDJ 800 on both platforms, getting you mixing as soon as possible!
