About this deal

There’s nothing wrong with taking care of yourself, but for many, collecting all the grooming tools you need to do a decent job is about as tough as Thanos’ hunt for the Infinity Stones: possible, but takes a lot of time and effort. However, our shopping experts are well-versed in finding the best devices to keep you looking sharp and feeling healthy, whether you’re looking to trim down your beard, hydrate your skin or improve your flossing game with a high-powered jet of water. SPY introduced new product testing guidelines in 2022, and you can read our in-depth article about our new product testing and review process. When testing grooming products, we first come up with objective criteria based on the product category. For instance, when testing the best smart light bulbs, we came up with criteria such as brightness/illumination, ease of use and connectivity. When testing the best body wash, our testing categories included fragrance, cleaning abilities and ingredients. Patients who use electric toothbrushes are a lot less likely to suffer from gum disease”, says Dr Edwards-Lunn. “Unfortunately, gum disease is a multifactoral disease. Just having an electric toothbrush doesn’t mean you won’t get it. But it will mean the risk is much reduced. The most important thing is removing the plaque.” Will electric toothbrushes help with receding gums?

Pros: Top-spec smart features for a more affordable price | regularly discounted | Travel case included | Wireless charging stand The reason I love this toothbrush so much is the intuitive design coupled with the fact that I can feel the deep-cleaning effects (the closest I’ve got to a hygienist-standard clean at home). Even though it cleans powerfully, it doesn’t feel too harsh on my gums. It also has a remarkably long-lasting battery – I started by testing it daily for four weeks and only had to charge it once in that time. It’s definitely won a permanent place in my bathroom cabinet. Tech and sustainability don't often go hand in hand unless a brand goes out of its way to make products that are kind to the planet. Suri, or Sustainable Ritual to use the full name, is exactly that sort of company, building its devices from plant-based materials and producing them on a net-zero basis to be as gentle and clean on the earth as it is on your teeth. There’s a common misconception with whitening teeth,” Dr Edwards-Lunn says. “All the on-shelf products won’t whiten your teeth, they will reduce the amount of stain on your teeth: these are ‘extrinsic stains’, on the outside of the teeth, from food, drinks and cigarettes. Dr Richard Marques, a private dentist based on London’s Harley Street, says: “By now, so much research has gone into them that any electric toothbrush you can buy is better than a manual toothbrush. They either use rotation and oscillation or vibration, and you’re able to clean your teeth without scrubbing too hard.” I had never imagined that an electric toothbrush could be a stylish accessory, but this one has a smooth, ergonomic design that’s a minimalist’s dream. One brushed silver button switches it off and on, and toggles between three brushing modes: ‘Sensitive,’ ‘Clean,’ and ‘White.’ Other toothbrushes offer more speed settings, but I found this to be more than enough (and less confusing). It uses Sonic technology that moves bristles side-to-side at a rate of up to 48,000 reps per minute. Aesthetics aside, Spotlight’s toothbrush is just a joy to use. The three settings are easy to switch between and the sensitivity option is especially good at lowering the intensity while still feeling effective (the misuse of powerful electric toothbrushes can, after all, be a cause of gum recession). Its high-frequency sonic oscillation also means that toothpaste and oxygen are delivered to even the most inaccessible places for a deeper clean.

It's well designed, too. A bright touchscreen display built into the brush handle allows you to choose from various modes and intensity settings, with a timer that counts down as you brush. It works surprisingly well with wet hands and is more intuitive than pushing a series of physical buttons. Now, because I have a beard, I only use the foil shaver for touch-ups and shaping, but I’ve found that it cuts the hair extremely close to the skin for a shave that’s comparable to my favorite men’s razors. This unique electric toothbrush is from FOREO, a brand that usually makes high-tech face brushes. It has a similar ‘beauty tech’ vibe, with a smooth silicone handle and curvy design (two times stronger silicone than the previous version). It’s very simple to set up and use, and has an unbelievably long battery life of 365 days per charge (no, I don’t quite know how that works, either – but it’s true. I’ve never had to charge it). That makes it a great toothbrush for travel.Complete with top-spec features, you'll find a well-crafted, ergonomic handle that makes tooth-cleaning a relative doddle morning and night, with a handy buzz to warn you that you've completed the mandatory two minutes of cleaning each time. While I’ve spent a lot of time testing the Multishape’s toothbrush, trimmer and electric shaver, I haven’t used the body grooming tools as much. This grooming tool features an attachment for trimming nose and ear hair, and it does a fine job at this. In my professional experience, you don’t need anything fancy to get this task done, and so I don’t have as much to report on this feature.

Some toothbrushes combine the two actions and are known as rotating-oscillating. This is my personal recommendation to patients and what I use. Other mechanisms of action include pulsing and sonic. Pulsing and sonic are additional features to a rotating, oscillating or rotating-oscillating brush.” One handy feature which we hadn’t seen in the iO4 is the brush head replacement reminder. An orange LED light at the bottom of the control panel will flash when the brush head needs to be changed. The top of the handle also has a pressure sensor, flashing green or red according to how hard you’re pressing. Top review: "Highly recommend you get one, lots of settings to choose from you're bound to find one that's best for you, love it so much bought them for all the family." Oscillating toothbrushes feature rotating and pulsating round brush heads that can rotate up to ~8,000 times per minute, depending on the model. While they're slower in this department, oscillating toothbrushes benefit from the rotating head, which is fantastic for fighting plaque.Seven cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, gum care, intense clean, whitening, super sensitive and tongue clean)
