About this deal

Mentally trace where on the model light rays would fall as they radiate away from the lantern in straight lines

Finally, just as I did with the Terminator, I’ll apply some Technical paint to create a textured base and start work on the next batch while the paint is drying. Time to do tthe eyes with a spot of white. I also edge highlight the under-lids and smooth out the transitions on the upper lip. I do a final set of highlights on the bottom lip with a 50/50 mix of Emperor’s Children and Reaper Pure White to give it a glossy look. My boy has beautiful, kissable lips. I highlight the teeth with Rakarth Flesh and then Reaper Polished Bone. I’m going to do the same on the horns eventually. Question remains, which is my favourite range of all? I’d say I still prefer Contrast, as they are the most richly pigmented paints, and have a good selection of colours. I wasn’t a fan of the original Speedpaints’ reactivation, but now that the 2.0 formula made the paints more stable, I found I use them more often, as the range offers a lot of choice. Xpress Colors’ slightly lower pigmentation limits their use a little bit, but they have some really nice colours and work well in combination with preshading, for example Slapchop or a zenithal basecoat. Instant Colors are the most different from all the others as they use opaque pigments, you can create some nice effects with them but I’ll only use them rarely. The only thing scarier than a Troll covered in brains is a Troll with brains of his own, and Ripper Bolgrot has the dubious honour of being the smartest Troll in all of Blood Bowl . Along with all the raw power you’d expect from a Troll, he has the ability to re-roll one dice that isn’t an Armour, Injury, or Casualty roll per half to boot. This resin Star Player is usable by Badlands Brawl and Underworld Challenge teams, and comes with his rules in the box. Prepare basic fleshtone mix from Slaanesh Grey, Cadian Fleshtone, and Ushabti Bone (5:3:1). I made a whole batch of this in a dropper bottle for all of my first to third generation Genestealers, so that the tone would be consistent across units. Hereafter I’ll refer to this as Genestealer Flesh Mix.For tongues I’ll usually do the Squid Pink to finish it off, gives it that nice pink tongue look. The same will work for tentacles or other fleshy growths that you want to distinguish from the main mass. But really any colors would work just as well – I just like to start dark at the base and move to light at the tips. I did some nice Blue tongues in the same style on my warlord for the Astradus campaign. I don’t want to say his name, he’s a very litigious misfit. Horns, Claws, and Teefs White Armour: – Wash with Apothecary White, keep an eye out for pooling in the crevices and draw it away before it sets too much. – Soft Drybrush VGC Ghost Grey with a round-tipped makeup brush. – Edge Highlight the most raised parts of the armour with White Scar. Wash pink parts with a thin mix of Contrast Magus Purple/Contrast Medium, wash the blue parts with a thin mix of Contrast Akhelian Green, both focusing on the recesses.

I like to start with a nice dark purple – I’ve got a Vallejo Warlord Purple or a Xereus purple that work well. Generally, then I like to wash with a Red like the Carroburg Crimson – that nice mix of Purple guts and Red blood filling in the crevices. This works for all of these things, as it’s all kind of the same rotting innards, and the same undercoat helps tie them all together as coming from inside the carcass. I like to start dark because it would be dark and poorly lit inside the body. For muscles I like to go with the Screamer Pink. It’s a nice reddish purple that gives the idea of muscles without being too bright of a red that it would look like a fresh, bleeding wound. I like to think of these as rotting more than bleeding wounds, but hey I’m not your supervisor.

Painting Slaanesh Daemons

Spray Wraithbone and let dry before spraying thinly with Army Painter Daemonic yellow, shade with Agrax in recessed areas only. Gold trim: For the chipping, take a fine piece of sponge and use it to dab Rhinox Hide on the sharpest corners. Paint the base white/Wraithbone. Cover the base in Citadel Blood Angels Red Contrast (I lied about not using it, at least on the bases). While the paint is wet, bleed in some Citadel Troll Slayer Orange and stir it in places to give some variation to the red.

Explore the brand new edition of Warhammer 40,000 with White Dwarf 490 . This issue introduces the White Dwarf Bunker, a worldwide gaming club – we’ll have more info on that this week. There’s also a gorgeous gallery of vibrant and verdant Sylvaneth from the staff, as well as the final part of the Grombrindal serial by Chris Thursten.* Dark Imperium and Plague War by Guy Haley. These books focus on Guilliman’s battles against the Death Guard and Mortarion’s forces, but also feature several notable daemons, including Ku’Gath Plaguefather. Cultivate your own collection of horrors from beyond the galaxy with this Termagants and Ripper Swarm + Paints set. It contains three push-fit Termagants and a Ripper Swarm, a Citadel starter brush, and five paints – Corax White, Wraithbone, Naggaroth Night, Thunderhawk Blue, Magos Purple, and Armageddon Dust. Warhammer 40,000 Paints + Tools Set Mutant Innards (Tongues, Tentacles, Exposed Muscle, Blood Vials): – Base with Daemonette Flesh. – Wash with Guilliman Blue (if available) or 50/50 Tallasar Blue/Contrast Medium – Carefully Highlight with Warpfiend Grey. – Edge Highlight with Slaanesh Grey. Using the general approach of starting with highlights/lowlights, basing Elysian Green, working up to a desaturated cream highlight, adding green saturation via an ink, then painting the details works for any other Nurgle model too, such as Plaguebearers and Nurglings. Try to make your darks super dark and your brights super bright, while choosing colors that create visual interest, and it’s hard to go wrong.

Brandon Fox’s Method

Kraken laid waste to Craftworld Iyanden, forcing its Farseers to rouse a massive number of Wraithguard and Wraithlords in its defence. It took the intervention of Prince Yriel – arriving suddenly from exile to cripple the Tyranid fleet – to turn the tide, and the narrow victory left the craftworld as a gaunt shadow of its former self. A new alternative to Volupus Pink , Doomfire Magenta is lighter and brighter, opening up new avenues for painting pinkish tones.

Emma: Gutrippa Flesh is terrific and will save a lot of time when painting Kruleboyz or Gretchin as it gives an excellent base colour and shade that suits these boyz down to the ground. It’s really great for camo cloth too!For the flesh of the arms on more mutated hybrids, where the purple fades into blue, wet blend the Genstealer Flesh Mix with Night Lords Blue. Alternatively, glaze Night Lords Blue down the arm, increasing in intensity towards the hands.
