About this deal

Alex O'Connell, Children's Book of the Week, The Times The verse skips along as cheerfully as Dot on her way round Wallaby Ward. Our volunteers have the unique privilege of volunteering with their own temperament tested Therapy Dogs; some with over 10 years of experience and always focused on benefiting people in the community. The Hospital Dog is a gentle rhyming story with a lovable main character who evokes our sympathy when she becomes a patient herself. Dot is loved by everybody that she has met at the hospital and their surprise leads to a heartwarming ending to the story.

Graeme Hall, renowned for his expertise in training unruly dogs on Channel 5’s Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly, embarks on a new journey within the world of canines. The very special brand of care, companionship and therapy that Pets As Therapy provides is being increasingly recognised by the medical profession. Volunteers are being asked to assist with stroke rehabilitation work, and help people with phobias or mental health issues. Many schools are also now inviting Pets As Therapy dogs to spend time in the classroom and help children with reading difficulties.Graeme Hall said: “I’ve been privileged to follow highly skilled specialists behind the scenes at one of the country’s top veterinary hospitals recently, as they give hope to some very poorly dogs and their worried owners. It’s been an amazing experience and I can’t wait to share it with Channel 5 viewers.” If you've got a bit more spare time on your hands following retirement, an empty nest or reduced working hours then volunteering could be a rewarding way to spend some time. If you’re a dog owner, your four-legged friend could get involved too. You know how much joy your pet gives you, so why not let them give comfort and companionship to others, as a Pets As Therapy dog. In another heart wrenching case, Graeme accompanies the veterinary physiotherapy team as they work with 12-week-old Sussex Spaniel, Elton, who requires rehabilitation to regain his ability to walk following a debilitating home accident. Owner Philippa entrusts Elton’s care to the hospital’s experts, hoping they can restore mobility to his hind legs. Feb 25 2021 The hospital dog by Julia Donaldson. Illus. by Sara Ogilvie Macmillan Children's Books, 2020. ISBN: 9781509868315. (Age: 4+) Highly recommended. My novel The Giants and the Joneses is going to be made into a film by the same team who made the Harry Potter movies, and I have written three books of stories about the anarchic Princess Mirror-Belle who appears from the mirror and disrupts the life of an otherwise ordinary eight-year-old.

I love the depiction of the hesitantmother and toddler, both wary of the dog, but seduced by Dot's enthusiasm and love. The sting in the tale where a deaf boy is about to cross the road without looking brings Dot's abilities to the fore, putting herself in the place of the boy, taken to a different sort of hospital. A wonderful resolution sees the Wallaby Ward children returning the love shown them by Dot as they visit her. During the assessment, carried out by a Pets As Therapy accredited assessor or vet, you will need to be able to show that your dog is friendly and well-behaved, responds to your commands, and walks on a relaxed lead. Written by the brilliant Julia Donaldson and stunningly illustrated by the award-winning Sara Ogilvie, The Hospital Dog is a big-hearted tale about a very special, very brave dog. Therapy Dogs Nationwide is a national charity where visiting volunteers take their own dogs into establishments to provide comfort, distraction, and stimulation. After the two prepare themselves for their day off they go by bus to the hospital. Wallaby Ward children's wing is waiting for their arrival and are always glad for their visits.

More about Julia: “I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. Mary and I would argue about which of us would marry him). All Pets As Therapy volunteers need to provide references, and the dogs go through a strict assessment to make sure they are suitable. Dogs must be healthy and happy to be fussed over. But they can’t get too excited and bark, jump up or paw people – hygiene and safety is paramount, and some frail patients may have paper-thin skin. The benefits of therapy dogs The illustrations depict all the sorts of things children might see in a hospital, encouraging them to talk of charts, sanitiser, doctors and nurses. The comparison with Dot in her own form of hospital, recovering from her own accident, is a great lead in to calm children’s inexperience. Our dogs have also shown to help with special needs and autistic children and adults by giving focus and providing a calming environment. Our vet care is available to pets whose owners receive certain means-tested benefits and live within the catchment area of one of our animal hospitals or pet care clinics.

Pets As Therapy has also launched a READ 2 DOGS programme, helping children who are reluctant readers to enjoy books. What will the assessment involve?I have to say that I loved the Dutch names (Fiet (dog) and Wil (owner)), but now I see the English names and I just think those are WAY more fitting and WAY more lovely. Our team is currently receiving a lot of calls so please bear with us if you cannot get through and try again. We will answer your call as soon as possible. Am I eligible? My real breakthrough was THE GRUFFALO, again illustrated by Axel. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes. The latter parts of the book, OH NO. OH NO. I was just crying at that moment. I don’t want to spoil it and the ending of the book made me smile again, but for a bit of the book I was just in tears.

I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married. Dogs that continuously bark, get too excited or jump up and paw people may not be suitable. It needs to be comfortable in different environments, respond calmly to sudden noises, and not get anxious if stroked or patted vigorously. How much time do I need to commit? Această minunată cățelușă este cea care le readuce zâmbetul pe buze copiilor din secția de Pediatrie. Zilnic frecventează spitalul împreună cu stăpâna sa, Roza. Winner of the Indie Book Awards 2021 this fantastic rhyming story comes from the bestselling partnership behind The Detective Dog.Throughout the series, Graeme delves into the heart of Willows Hospital, witnessing cutting-edge procedures, collaborating with skilled specialists and bearing witness to remarkable recoveries.
