About this deal

Get your strawberry plants in the ground; when you dig the hole add some compost before planting. Using a garden trowel instead of a shovel works better. And, when you plant, make sure you do so at the right height. If growing strawberries in pots or hanging baskets, feed them every two weeks during the growing season with a balanced fertiliser. When flowering begins, switch to a high-potash liquid fertiliser to encourage good fruiting. It doesn’t matter whether you are growing strawberries in hanging grow bags, pots, containers, raised beds or directly in the garden. The basic care is the same.

OR a slow release fertiliser applied around 10 cm below the surface a few weeks before planting also works well. As the fruits develop, place dry straw or mulching fabric underneath to stop splashes blemishing the fruit. Now just keep the plant watered regularly and it will grow. You can use drip irrigation or you can use a garden sprinkler. This plant is set perfectly, it’s not too deep so that the crown is buried. It’s not so shallow that the roots can become exposed. Certified runners are best planted around 30 – 40 cm apart, this allows for good growth and good air flow which helps prevent many diseases.
