About this deal

A few weeks after the launch of the Ender 3 S1 PLus, we get a news that Creality will release an Ender 3 Max Neo in August. But that’s where the strengths of the LK5 end. Its build quality is pretty bad, safety standards are subpar, and it misses out on a dual Z-axis setup and an automatic bed leveling probe. There is a long-held myth about budget 3D printers that they sacrifice performance to achieve low cost, which is certainly not true for the Neo printers. At this point, we’ve covered Creality’s user interface for the V4.2.x-type boards plenty of times. It’s the same one found on all budget Ender 3-series machines and is more than enough for most users. Over the past few years, I’ve discovered plenty of both paid and open-source Ender 3 mods that have allowed my device to punch above its price point.

For large printer lovers, the most-anticipated Ender 3 Max Neo may be a go-to option. The 300 x 300 x 320 mm build volume gives you the convenience of printing larger models or more parts in one run. Complete with dual Z-axis and motors, the Ender 3 Max Neo provides high stability and precision in 3d printing. It supports filament including PLA, ABS and PETG like the other two Neos. Another common issue is that on budget 3D printers, Bowden extruders often use plastic parts. This was the case with the Ender 3 V2, for example. For that reason, upgrading the Ender 3 V2 extruder with metal parts is a popular change to make. As the kit is only on the vertical height, installation is relatively straightforward. With this, you can print much taller parts and models like large vases, cosplay weapons, tall storage solutions, and many more projects. Ender Extender 300The Phateus Dragonfly BMS is a favorite for experienced makers. Unabashedly a premium option, it’s made of copper alloy to improve heat transfer and dissipation, a conical heat break fitting free of PTFE, and a smooth inner path to reduce flow issues, ease retraction, and reduce clogs and jams. While they’re all based on the same core frame, components, and design, some Ender 3s have a different-sized footprint. So, it’s super important to buy an enclosure large enough to house your specific Ender 3 model. This upgrade effectively levels up your Ender 3 to an Ender 3 S1 in terms of pure print performance. There are no bolts or screws needed, once fitted into the grooves the filament holder rests on its own support. Ender 3s come partially assembled, with tools and instructions included, making them engaging, easy to understand, and affordable. The Ender 3 range is also open-source, making it easy to upgrade, so you can develop your printer along with your skills.

Only need a basic version of the Neo series? The Ender 3 Neo is best for you. It has a carborundum glass build plate like the Ender 3 Max Neo, which is easy to clean. It has all the essential features a Neo printer should have, and is a premium choice for DIY enthusiasts. The major downside of a tent is that the plastic sheets are designed to reflect heat and have a murky white finish. As a consequence, photography tents offer no visibility of the printer, but do come with a zipper door or flap that makes accessing it easier.

Instead, the side-mounted hinged spool holder seems to be a carry-over from the Ender 3 Max. In our opinion, there is not much reason to keep this design around. It’s bulky and impractical. You can upgrade this part yourself if you want to at some point. Dual Z-axis Due to the natural limitations of the Ender 3’s frame and design, a true dual extruder setup isn’t possible, but there are workarounds that provide almost the same function. Mosaic Palette 3 / Pro Perfect coordination among dual Z-axes, timing belt and dual motors guarantees the stability and higher printing precision. Basically, it can be accomplished by moving the print head to a corner of the build plate and using an A4 piece of paper to gauge the distance between the nozzle and the plate. Tighten or loosen the leveling knob until there’s a slight resistance between the nozzle and the piece of paper and then repeat for the other three corners. Another thing to note is that just like on the Ender 3 V2 Neo, there is barely any cable management present. This leads to the aforementioned problem of the wiring flopping around the spool holder, but it also makes the Ender 3 Max Neo look messy.

Design and features

Though the company offers many variants, the Capricorn XS tubing features a tighter inner diameter and lubricating additives to reduce friction and avoid clogging and jamming. This is perfect for printing flexible filaments. The difference with going straight to the source and using Marlin 2.0 is the wealth of features, options for configuration and tinkering, and the firmware’s in-built adaptability. Just like with the V2 Neo, this is caused by subpar machining quality—it is a budget 3D printer after all—that results in coarse threads. It’s not a big issue and can be solved with a bit of extra force if necessary.
