About this deal

No surprises that after all that, the from-concentrate apple juice doesn’t taste that much like fresh apples any more. Overwhelming, in my tasting, the not-from-concentrate juice (but not necessarily the chiller cabinet juice) tasted better, fresher and more appley. Simple to make, you just need to ensure the wet and dry ingredients are mixed separately before combining, and you’ll have a crowd-pleasing cake to enjoy at the end. This homemade unsweetened apple sauce recipe uses the sweetness from the apples and juice, without adding sugar too. Perfect for serving with roast pork, pulled pork or pork chops. If that hasn’t put you in the mood for a hearty Sunday roast this weekend, we’re not sure what will. Rather than making the gravy separately, this recipe involves roasting the pork in apple juice, then adding flour, water, seasoning and more apple juice to the roasting pan once the meat is removed; stirring constantly over the hob to make the gravy.

Combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes, making sure to keep an eye on the sauce so that it doesn’t burn. Pork and apple go hand in hand, but in a twist on the classic apple sauce, this recipe uses the fruity flavours in a gravy instead. Assorted toppings including sliced or chopped cucumber, sliced or chopped apples, chopped fresh parsley and additional celery leaves.

Assorted toppings such as sliced almonds, berries, shredded coconut, granola, chia seeds, sliced banana, mint sprigs, etc. Preheat your oven to 160 C and grease and flour a bundt pan. Then combine flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon in a bowl. In a larger bowl, cream together the butter and sugar, then beat in the eggs one at a time. Alternately add the flour mixture and the apple juice, beginning and ending with the flour, aiming for three additions of flour and two of juice. Then fold in the raisins and nuts until your batter is mixed and ready for the oven. Bake in the 160 C oven for about 1 hour 15 minutes - then leave to fully cool before pouring over the glaze.Simple to make and versatile to enjoy, apple sauce can be served with roast pork, dolloped on top of hog roast rolls, or even eaten with yoghurt or dessert. To create an acid cider vinegar that will last for months to come, you simply ferment three ingredients for one month (see directions here). This recipe is for 4.5 litres, but you can amend it depending on how much apple juice you have left over. The recipe for a good smoothie bowl is partly down to the smoothie base and partly down to the toppings. You can get really creative here, and remember texture is key, so it’s always worth choosing a mixture of ingredients that are juicy, creamy and crunchy. Some of our favourites include:
