About this deal

Without any active custom EQ, or the Bass Boost Preset in the Audeze linked app on your phone, the Maxwell leans to the top side and the pronounced and lush midrange overpowers the low end. The Maxwell has four connectivity options: 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.3, wired via USB-C, and analog. While the headset can connect to both 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.3 at the same time, it can’t play audio from both wireless sources simultaneously, like the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT or the Logitech G735 can. It can, however, play dual-source audio simultaneously provided one of the sources is wired — e.g., it can play audio simultaneously over an analog connection and Bluetooth. It’s an active headset with an internal DSP and a built-in DAC, so it will need to be powered on even if you’re using a wired analog connection.

This is my favorite type of treble experience. It is fun and musical. It is fatigue-free even after hours of playing. Loud bullets that come by the thousands during a gaming session are not annoying and don’t get painful. The internal battery of the Maxwell is 1800maH and allows for a 20-minute fast charging experience that can get you up to 25% full at 1.8amp (max). Thankfully, the cable they include is fully compatible with that fast charge potential.

Maxwell is built on an all-new premium chassis including aluminum yokes and a spring steel headband for durability. Play in comfort, all day, all night with the deluxe contoured earpads and replaceable suspension strap. Shut out the world around you with class-leading passive noise reduction from the reinforced dual-chamber earcups. The Maxwell's excellent audio profile also put on a strong showing while I played Fortnite. I could easily tell what direction distant gunfire came from without looking at the audio markers on the game’s compass. The actual mixing credit goes mostly to Sony for its Tempest 3D processing, but the effect wouldn’t work nearly as well if the Maxwell didn’t sound so balanced and detailed. The Audeze Maxwell comes in two console-specific variants: Xbox and PlayStation. The manufacturer states in their FAQ section that Xbox variant isn't officially supported on this console, which can result in 'some limitations in volume control and other possible loss of functionality'. They also recommend that you use the correct variant with each console. Based on the following retests, latency ranged from 4 ms, which is lower than the manufacturer reports, to 52 ms on a different PC. It's nowhere near what we originally measured. While using the same USB port on the same PC, replugging the dongle could also result in a fluctuation of ~15-25 ms.

Clearly, these headphones were intended for online gaming and there are presets in the app that let you toggle to an algorithm that was specifically set up to tailor to distant footsteps in FPS online gaming. The Soundstage of the Maxwell is absolutely fantastic. Simply put you have to try them out to understand. Playing Apex legends, I can perfectly pin point where the bullets are coming from and work out if the players footsteps are above or below me. With Tempest audio on, you even get a sense of perception of just how far (or near) they are to you. I am pretty sure I can now work out what character I am chasing/ be chased by just from the footsteps! Those sweaty Wraiths now stand no chance against me (Huwah ah ah). It is like having a second controller but not only that, a second controller which brings you directly into the world you are playing.I recall the days of playing the original Call of Duty: MW2 with my AD700. People would call me a cheater because the final kill cam would often show me lead a target with my pointer and gun before that person would even show up visible from behind a wall.
