About this deal

Just before the Requiem Ball started, which is being held at Gordon's estate, Skulduggery buys Valkyrie a new dress for it. They leave for the Ball after. The two have multiple conversations with friends and enemies. There is evidence that Skulduggery speaks the Irish Gaelic language (commonly known as Gaelige or Celtic Gaelic). In Mortal Coil he mentions the word creim, which is Irish for erode.

Skulduggery takes her to the High Sanctuary in Roarhaven City, where she collects her Arbiter badge, making her an official member of the Arbiter Corps. It's not destiny. Even if it was, I've changed it. It's not happening." — Valkyrie telling a Remnant she has sealed her True Name, Skulduggery Pleasant: Mortal Coil Valkyrie and Skulduggery are perched atop a mountain, facing a castle. In this castle, Skulduggery claims, Doctor Nye is being kept by Eliza Scorn. They use cloaking spheres to get in, while subduing the Ripper guards. They find Nye, who tells them that Abyssinia had been there just mere days ago, and tells them to go to Doctor Quidnunc, before he and his Necromancer bodyguard Whisper shadow-walk away.

The night before the meeting with Chabon, a deranged Remus Crux manages to gain entry into her house and tries to kill her. Wreath saves Valkyrie, who deflects her parents' worries by telling them a bat had caused all the havoc. The next morning, after talking to Ghastly, Tanith and Fletcher, she learns about Esryn Vanguard and his death; a man called Dreylan Scarab had assassinated him during the war for making advocations for peace. Scarab has just been released from prison a day early after serving his sentence. Valkyrie tells the others about what happened last night with Crux. Tanith and Ghastly don't trust Wreath and think he is trying to use Valkyrie. Skulduggery pulls into a fast-food place and reveals that Ghastly finished making Stephanie’s protective clothing, and gives it to her to try on in the bathrooms. They then head to the Waxworks Museum, which the Irish Sanctuary is hidden under, and where she sees Cleavers for the first time. The Administrator shows them the Book of Names in the Repository, which contains the Given, Taken and True names of every person. The Book cannot be destroyed so the Elders combined their powers to protect it. Called the Will of the Elders, this spell makes someone want the Book less the closer they are to it. They are then taken to meet the Elders: Eachan Meritorious, Morwenna Crow and Sagacoius Tome, who try to deter Stephanie from involving herself in the world of magic, and asks Skulduggery about his recent claims of threats to the truce. When they learn he believes Serpine is after the Sceptre, they dismiss it as nonsense and leave. Outside the Waxworks Museum Skulduggery and Stephanie meet Mr. Bliss, who tells them about the deaths of Clement Gale and Alexander Slake and states that the Sceptre of the Ancients was recently uncovered during an archaeological dig and bought by Gordon. He knows Serpine is after the Sceptre and says that the Elders underestimate Serpine too much to act against him. After Valkyrie has spent nine months obsessively looking for Skulduggery's skull, a vampire called Caelan manages to set up a meeting for her with a man called Thames Chabon, who apparently has the skull. It is revealed that Wreath has indeed been teaching her Necromancy during her search for the skull, and she has placed her power into a ring. According to The Skulduggery Pleasant Grimoire, Valkyrie chose her first name on account of Gordon Edgley referring to her as his "little Valkyrie".

Stephanie and Skulduggery capture Axel, a friend of Sanguine, a top contributed to rebuilding the destroyed Roarhaven and convict him for the murder of a colleague. A Stephanie and Skulduggery, aided by an immensely strong tailor named Ghastly Bespoke, and English professional swordswoman Tanith Low attempt to prevent the villain, Nefarian Serpine, from obtaining the Sceptre. Derek Landy revealed in an interview that he never cared or even thought about what Skulduggery looked like when he was alive. This is for the same reason he will never tell his readers if Skulduggery's child was a girl or boy. He said that Skulduggery is who he is and when people read about his past he wants them to only remember that 'his wife and child were murdered'. He said Skulduggery is whole and he wants his readers to only have certain, important details of Skulduggery's past; The rest, including his given name, is irrelevant. [3] [4] In June 2011 Landy posted on his blog that he would be writing a short story about Skulduggery called The End of the World. [29] It was released in late February 2012 to coincide with World Book Day 2012. The Australian release of this novella came with an additional short story titled Just Another Friday Night. Deleted scenes from Skulduggery Pleasant were included. It is set a few months after Death Bringer. It was included in the 2014's short story collection. Skulduggery and Stephanie drive to Grimwood House to find the entrance to these caves. They find that it requires a key to open, and as they leave, Serpine arrives with four Hollow Men. Serpine incapacitates Skulduggery by firing a beam of purple vapour from his right hand and sends a Hollow Man after Stephanie. She defeats the Hollow Man by throwing them out of a window, but by then Serpine has left. Stephanie calls China, and tells her that Skulduggery has been taken.Later Solomon Wreath approaches Valkyrie who angrily tells him that Guild has given all the credit of the victory to Mr Bliss. Wreath tells Valkyrie that she can still save Skulduggery by using his original skull as an Isthmus anchor. With new hope, she is also told she is a natural at Necromancy, seeing how skilfully she was able to wield Wreath's cane. Wreath offers to train her, as she will need more power to get through her new mission. It's exciting, pacy, nicely handled and it's fun. There's nothing worthy about it, and it's all the better for that. And, I might add, it's self-contained. Landy may well revisit these characters – I sincerely hope he does – but it's a pleasingly rounded tale, which is refreshing in these days of endless open-ended books of never-ending series. [44]

The next day, Skulduggery visits Valkyrie who reluctantly lets him in. After a conversation, Valkyrie finally forgives Skulduggery over his past. Skulduggery then tells her of his plan to stop Melancholia, which involved Lord Vile. They follow him into the Caves, reaching the Sceptre about the same time as Serpine and fight him. During their fight, Skulduggery manages to set Serpine on fire, which would have killed him, but he had undergone a strange procedure, making him a Zombie with an enormous healing ability. The plan goes wrong, however, and they are arrested. Valkyrie is interrogated by Marr. Valkyrie manages to overpower her with her Necromancer ring and frees the other three. Tanith and Ghastly distract the incoming Cleavers while Fletcher teleports Valkyrie to Guild's office, where they finally retrieve the skull. They teleport to China's library and she joins the two. The three go to Aranmore Farm, where the portal is opened. Valkyrie insists that she goes in alone, causing Fletcher to kiss her. This section needs to be updated. The reason given is: it should cover more than just the first book. Please help update this article to reflect recent events or newly available information. ( April 2020) Originally called Stephanie Edgley, Valkyrie had to take a new name to protect herself from other mages who desired to influence her. Skulduggery Pleasant is her magic mentor, Sanctuary detective partner, and best friend. Solomon Wreath was her Necromancy mentor until 2011. Before a Remnant possessed her, Tanith Low was her fighting mentor, "big sister" and other best friend. During her time in Colorado, Valkyrie was trained in handling various melee weapons, as well as military moving and handling of guns by her boyfriend at that time, Coda.Skulduggery continues into the Caves, soon coming across Serpine, having just found the Sceptre, with a group of Hollow Men. The Sceptre starts to ring as he approaches and fights Serpine. He sets Serpine on fire and batters him, but his injuries heal themselves in seconds. Valkyrie runs out of the shadows and rams into Serpine to stop him killing Skulduggery with the Sceptre. They are forced to flee, chased by Serpine and his Hollow Men. When they are outside Gordon’s house, Tanith helps fight off the Hollow Men. Serpine destroys the Canary Car using the Sceptre. A car pulls up, with China and her assistant in the front seat, and Tanith, Valkyrie and Skulduggery jump in as the car speeds away. A spin-off novel featuring Tanith Low taking place between the seventh and eighth books was released on 28 March 2013 in the U.K & Ireland and 1 April in other countries. The cover and title ( Tanith Low in... The Maleficent Seven: From the World of Skulduggery Pleasant) were released on 7 December 2012 after several delays, with Landy stating it to be his favourite book cover ever. The Lost Art of World Domination: (1–2) Set after Skulduggery Pleasant, Scaramouch Van Dreg manages to capture Skulduggery Pleasant. Originally included in Skulduggery Pleasant. Valkyrie shows up to save a boy called Ryan. They run through the library throwing fireballs, before getting outside to the Bentley. Skulduggery then gets in and drives them away. During the drive, Valkyrie explains some things about magic and it's people to Ryan before coming to an apartment building. She also explains that Vincent Foe and his friends need the imprint on Ryan's hand to activate a Doomsday Machine, a bomb that was initially meant to destroy the Faceless Ones. Deacon Maybury was a sorcerer who used to belong to Foe's gang, but he betrayed them and stole the key, planning to sell it on.
